We loved this hotel and the beautiful town of Alesund. ||We caught the airport bus into town from Alesund airport mainly because it was ready to go as we stepped out of the airport. The hotel was about a 5 min walk from the terminal. ||There are so many positives. We spent 4 nights here and would have happily extended if time permitted.|The exterior and interior are beautiful - the lobby is unique and very welcoming. |Our room, 4008, was spacious with a calming decor, views across the canal and a sliding window. The bed was very comfortable with a good selection of pillows. The bathroom was large with very nice products. Everything was spotless.|There was storage for clothes - very exciting! This had been an issue in the majority of hotels so really appreciated not having to live out of a suitcase on the floor.||Breakfast was great (except the coffee - on going battle throughout Norway). Freshly brewed coffee could be ordered but was an additional charge. A little cheeky given its not an inexpensive hotel. There is also a cafe next door. ||The staff were really lovely and helpful.||The location was perfect, close to everything. There is a good selection of restaurants close by and the small wine bar across the road from the hotel was very good. The surrounding area is very lovely, a great place to walk, safe and quiet at night. |The hotel has free bikes. A little tricky on the cobblestones but a bit of fun.||We had a meal at the hotels casual restaurant - good food & reasonably priced. We also had afternoon tea which is on every Saturday. It was very busy but there were plenty of staff to handle things. A lovely experience. ||Only one negative - the sauna is quite small & gets very busy.||Alesund|The town is beautiful, easy to walk around, clean and we always felt safe. ||We were once again very fortunate with the weather being late September. It was fine and suuny most days.||The tourist office was very helpful and gave us the info of a by-the-kilo laundry about 20 mins walk from the hotel. They offered a next day service for about $11AU per kilo. Ålesund Vask og Rens AS.||Everyone in Alesund was friendly & helpful. There are lots of unique little shops, great restaurants, small bars & cafes.||We found a great antique/vintage shop Trankokeriet Antikk just down the road from the hotel in Molovegen. Its is a great street running along one of the ports, nice walk.| |There are ferries to close by islands. We wanted to do this but time slipped away & we were really enjoying walking around the town and our time at the hotel.||Aksla lookout - 438 steps plus the walk there, all uphill but beautiful views from the top & a really lovely park at the base.||Cruise ships!!! 3 came into port at the same time which was ridiculous. Not sure how the town copes with that many people all at the same time. One of the ships was taller than our hotel, taking up the whole port. They were gone by the next morning so we had...
Read moreWe enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Brosundet, that was (mostly) pleasant (with some unfortunate drawbacks) and offered good value for money. It also hosts a great fish restaurant with a stunning harbour view and a great selection of wines. The architecture of the hotel and the location in the city centre are breathtaking. The rooms are not big, but beautifully decorated. We had a great view of the water. The cleaning service is excellent and the ladies are very friendly. The large bed was comfortable and the bathroom very nice with a great rain shower. Breakfast was fine with a good selection of fresh products, unfortunately the breakfast room was quite cramped and it was not always easy to get to the food. Breakfast and service are offering room for improvement. The only big shortcoming at the breakfast: Cappuccino and espresso are only available at the hotel reception desk - this is complicated and costs extra and should be arranged differently in a house with this standard. Parking is rather complicated. The hotel does not have any parking spaces. The only possibility is a public multi-storey car park in about five minutes walking distance, which costs the equivalent of 25 EUR for 24 hours. It is strongly discouraged to park on the street or without a parking ticket. In the best case this costs around 60 EUR. But these are not big issues. The only big problem in my opinion is the front desk: The service at the reception was something in between super friendly and a bit strange to disturbing. Some of the staff was very friendly and helpful: The towels that were missing in our room were quickly added, and the heating, which could not be switched off, was also quickly taken care of. Conversely, I don't know which is worse: Looking down on people is not a good quality. Especially not if you want to earn money with them. Letting you feel this contempt is an unpleasant experience. At best, it's simply arrogance. But in such a house and in such an extraordinarily friendly country as Norway, that should simply not happen, I think. So there is still a lot to improve for this...

We stayed at this hotel for one night and were impressed by the picturesque location in the heart of Ålesund, overlooking the iconic Brosundet. The surrounding area is charming and ideal for strolling, although it's worth noting that the hotel does not offer on-site parking. Guests must use a nearby parking garage approximately 400 meters away, which costs NOK 350 per day.
The service throughout our stay was efficient and courteous. Check-in and check-out were smooth and professionally handled.
Our room (3013) was clean and functional, though more basic and compact than expected, especially given the rate of NOK 3753 per night. The room faced the street rather than the waterfront, and the beds were on the soft side for our preferences. A notable drawback was the lack of air conditioning, which made the room uncomfortably warm. We had to keep the windows open during the night and were disturbed by street noise several times.
The complimentary sauna and the waterside bathtub (available for NOK 550 per 45 minutes) offer a unique and relaxing experience, with beautiful views of passing boats in the canal. There's also a floating dock for those who wish to take a refreshing dip in the sea.
The hotel interior has a warm and cozy atmosphere, particularly in the fireplace lounge. Breakfast was decent, but the selection fell slightly short of what we would expect from a hotel in this category. However, the sea view from the breakfast area added a nice touch.
Wi-Fi was complimentary and worked well throughout the premises.
In summary, while the location and amenities are appealing, the room standard and overall value do not fully justify the high price point.
