This place is really special. I have traveled a lot and seen food all over the world but some places are unique in their concept and execution. We did the chef's table which is an elevated experience which goes over the evening. It is interactive and informative with lots of direct stories about the food coming from the Chef and the team. The menu was seafood focused with a whole range of ingredients from the area including 2-year aged salted cod. The flavors are concentrated with flavor highlights coming from smoke driven cooking techniques. The centrepiece of the kitchen is a "Green Egg" as well as a habachi. Other traditional cooking appliances are available but used much less. I felt that the food was a cross between "Copenhagen" meets the legendary Asador Etxdbarri from Spain. For a place like this to be hiding up in Alesund is pretty special. The wine list is very strong with many top wines and for the global traveler - - fair prices. The wine team is passionate and knowledgeable and over the night you may see a few special wines come out that they have open for the night. If you make a trip to Alesund and are serious about food and wine - this experience is likely the top in town but would fit into a must see list in any larger town. Congrats to the team for such a great establishment and an amazing all around experience. Date of...
Read moreMy fish and chips, came beautifully plated looking unexpected. The fish itself was tasty, fresh and of good quality. It came pared with one of the best side of fries I’ve ever had, extremely crispy and creamy at once; spiced perfectly. Take the crispy fish and chips and combine them with the sweet pea mash and the sweet fennel, contrasted by the sour carrots. Accompanied by a dip, made up from mustard, mayonnaise, dill and pees (assumptions), that was just refreshing, perfectly balanced and tasteful. The fish soup was tasty, fruity and nicely balanced with spices. The bowl came filled with a lot of fish and mussels. Alongside the soup came a few pieces of crispy and moist bread, as the waiter described it - the fish soup was heavenly and the fish and chips were fantastic. The service was kind and accommodating, all spoke perfectly fine English and tried their best with the other customers who didn’t. The restaurant is peacefully located of the Main Street, inside the Harbour area. The modern design harmonized beautifully with the traditional surroundings; allowing you to lean back for a hour and to enjoy your meal. The...
Read moreThis is hands-down the best meal I've had in Norway. I've been living in Alesund for several months and as a vegan it's been difficult to find restaurants that can fully accommodate. So when one of my close friends (also vegan) came to visit we were hoping to find somewhere that could offer a full vegan experience, and Bro did not disappoint! While we didn't quite know what to expect, the chef nailed it with a delectable four-course custom-made vegan spread. From the colorful spring roll-type intro to the triple-apple dessert, each plate was artistically prepared and layered with flavor. If you're really hungry though, just know that the plates are on the smaller side. That said, I would highly recommend giving Bro a try for your next meal in Alesund. If it's anything like what we had, you won't be disappointed! I should also mention that the staff was very accommodating from my first phone call, all the way to the delivery of the last dish; kudos to them and the chef for giving us a meal...
