After check-in we read some reviews about things getting stolen in this place. That night we went out for dinner. We put a shoe behind the door and remembered the exact position of it so we could make sure whether or not somebody had been in our room upon return. We came back and found the shoe had moved, so somebody was there. We directly checked our stuff, and as more people have written, our smartphone was stolen! We directly confronted the people from the hostal but stay played stupid. After the Police was there and said there was no hard evidence, we demanded our money back and left for another hostal down the street. We also pressed charges and the Police would start an investigation they said. About an hour later, surprisingly, all of a sudden, the hostal people, together with the police, showed up at our new hostal. Guess what? The phone was back! They searched the room and found it behind te bed. We should have been more carefull... What an amazing coincidence! If I wasn't 100% sure, I would never write a review like this. We had not used the phone in days, it had been sitting in our backpack all that time and, most importantly we pulled of the 'shoe-trick' to make sure someone was in our room. Long story short: avoid this place, the people can...
Read moreThis hostel also has a laundry service - I used this last week and as soon as I received my clean clothes back, I realised that my 2 year old's trousers were missing. I returned immediately to speak to the Senora. She denied having seen them, but I was 100% certain that she had stolen them because they were at the very top of my washing bag which I carried for a mile through Arequipa, looking at my daughter's trousers. I went straight to the Police (Comiseria). A tourist police officer accompanied me to the hostel where we argued out the matter with the Senora. She put on a very good act but eventually accepted that I had no motive in accusing her of theft, so she gave me 10 soles to buy some more trousers. I accepted it (yeah, should have asked for more). Next time, I went to another lavanderia and realised that Hostal Nunez were also using a rip-off set of scales for weighing clothes, so I'd been over-charged by about 15 soles. Then I had a distant memory of her pulling the same stunt back in 2001 when I lived in Arequipa. She's a serial thief. AVOID...
Read moreMy mobile phone Nokia was taken out of my luggage when I left the hotel to visit the Colca Canyon.||Thanks to the internet connection of my mobile, I know who has my phone. I informed the administration of the hotel by phone and e-mail the name and show photos of the person in possession of my phone. While the administrators concede to know the person, even accept to be close to her, they say "sorry" and take no responsibility of my stolen phone!||The administration got in contact with the person that has my phone and say that she is sorry. But no one is giving me my phone back. ||The administrators of the hotel admit that the theft took place, they know the person who took my phone and are not willing to help me.||Be careful in this hotel, I see in tripadvisor that I am not the first one in such situation at this hotel.||||all...
