The room itself was great, newly renovated, with fresh sheets, a reasonable-sized clean bathroom with a hot shower. Hangers and hair dryer were provided when asked. The only downside was that the room was kinda dark and there were some peeling paint on the wall by the window. The big problem was the location of the room. For whatever reason, I was given what must be the worst room in the hotel, right in front of the entrance and reception. I could hear people coming and going at all hours, and the reception light shone straight into my room. On top of that, every time a motorcycle passed by outside, it was unbearably loud it felt like thunder right next to me. On my second night, a young spanish-speaking couple (or not) sat talking on the reception sofa, which is right outside the room, and things got very intimate. Hearing the girl moaning in a public space was totally unpleasant completely inappropriate. Why they didn’t go to a private room is beyond me. This ended when the girl got a phone call from someone. All of this made it impossible to get a good night sleep for two nights in a row. I had considered coming back here after my tour depending on my experience, but for sure I decided to change hotel. I won’t be returning here nor would I recommend to anyone. I wanted to bring this up to someone at the hotel, but no one was at the reception when I was checking out early in the morning the next day. Honestly, it doesn’t feel fair to charge the same rate for this room as the others, given how bad the location and experience were.

In the heart of Arequipa, La Casa de Irma is a charming affordable boutique hotel. Finding such a gem in Arequipa can be a daunting task, with options typically swinging between hostels and pricey hotel chains. La Casa de Irma offers the best of both worlds, presenting an enchanting, family-owned retreat that stands out for its warmth and hospitality. Following the devastation of an earthquake, the family poured their heart and soul into restoring the building to its former glory. (It’s named after the owner grandmother). The room, lovingly refurbished, feels like a home away from home, boasting brand-new amenities, luxurious bedding comparable to that of five-star hotels, and impeccable cleanliness. Located in the historic center of Arequipa, La Casa de Irma positions you just a stone's throw away from the city's finest attractions. Whether you're eager to explore the famed Plaza De Armas, delve into the historic Monasterio de Santa Catalina (where hiring a guide comes highly recommended), or savor culinary delights in nearby restaurants, everything is within a leisurely 5-minute walk. Your hosts, Reynaldo and his wife, are incredibly welcoming, they offer invaluable advice on must-visit spots, including the city's best dining and nightlife options. And if fortune favors you, you might just join Reynaldo for an exhilarating bike tour of Arequipa.

This is a "revenge of the cleaning ladies" type of hotel: if we have to work, you are not sleeping. We stayed 2 nights and each morning at 06:30, the cleaning started just across our room, with slamming doors, dropping buckets, talking and laughing. Also, the hotel is not allowing pets, but again every morning there were dogs fighting and barking on the hallway - so I guess these were personnel's dogs. The room we booked was a standard double, but the size of it it's a farce (and we are rather small persons). We did not have place to open 2 suitcases at once (no joke!); the shower itself it's 0,5X0,5 meters, I have no idea how a bigger person can handle. The shower curtain is there for years, I assume, as it was dirty and smelling really strong. There are no windows towards exterior, only towards the hallway. As for the breakfast... you have to make your choice during check-in; and you will receive same juice, same egg type every morning for the length of your stay. And it's only this: bread, egg, jam, butter, instant coffee.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We arrived very early into Arequipa and the staff member at reception was kind enough to let us store our bags and wait in the lobby until it was light enough to go out - he even brought us blankets and told us to help ourselves to tea/coffee while we waited. They then messaged us later on as soon as our room was ready, well ahead of normal check in time, without us even requesting early check in, which was so kind and appreciated.

The room was clean and well-equipped, and the hotel was in a good location close to lots of nice restaurants and bars, and about 15-20 mins walk to the main square of Arequipa.

All the staff we spoke to were very friendly and accommodating.

We did hear the dogs barking that are mentioned in some other reviews, however with good earplugs you won't notice this. It didn't disrupt our sleep at all.

My only minor feedback is that it seems strange that the rooms are cleaned in the morning each day (up until midday). Normally cleaning takes place in the afternoon when people are likely to be out. One morning, the cleaner attempted to enter our room at 6:30am, which wasn't ideal! However it's great that they do clean every day.

I'd highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay...
