Kuychi Rumi is a wonderful place to stay in the Sacred Valley. If you're traveling with a larger group or looking for a more unique and memorable experience than a traditional hotel, and can afford something in the higher range of what's around, I would say it's your best option in the whole region. My wife and I spent three nights here on our honeymoon. Our house itself was huge for the two of us and would have been great for 4 people, very well built and maintained, quiet and private, furnished and decorated beautifully, and complete with a very nice kitchen, 2 full baths and lots of views. The entire hotel complex is made up of 7 or so houses and some common buildings on a large, walled property overflowing with flowers and backed up right against the mountains. The location is really convenient as a base for exploring the Sacred Valley: a few minutes in a mototaxi will take you to the center of Urubamba, a few more in a taxi to Ollantaytambo, and you're across the street from some very good horseback riding and ceramics workshops. Finally, the staff (and dogs!) will make you feel at home and help you with whatever you need. Many thanks to Isaías, Gladys, Rodrigo, Simena and the others for making our stay so wonderful. My only suggestion would be that the owners consider adding on-demand electrical water heating units to the houses; as is common in Peru, the hot water can be a little...
Read moreStayed here a couple of nights on a recent trip (late August 17) with my son (aged 25). Gardens are lovely, houses are big and very comfortable, complete with both upstairs balcony (if you want the sun) or a shady patio (if you don't). ||||My son was taken ill in the night (pre-existing condition had exacerbated, nothing to do with Kuychi Rumi), and the lovely owners helped out calling a doctor and nurse, made soothing noises to the boy and generally went out of their way at 03h30 to do all they could to make things better. The lovely cook lady even went with me the next day to the bank to sort things out there.||||Speaking of the cook lady, I've seldom met a more enthusiastic cook. After a good day's hiking over 4200m passes, she understood that fancy cuisine doesn't cut it, so she served up a stream of lovely fresh simple home-made pizzas. Just what was needed.||||Would definitely stay there again.||||BTW, the doctor and nurse sorted the boy more or less on the spot. Huge injection of painkiller plus a course of antibiotics, and he was mooching around Machu Picchu 12 hours later. It took him a couple of days to recover fully, but he was well on the road to recovery from the moment he woke up...
Read moreWe decided on Urubamba in order to acclimatise before doing the Inca Trail. That worked well although the town itself is not much more than a transport hub. It is not in any way an alternative to Cusco. As every review says, the chalets at Kuychi Rumi are great - spacious and well equipped. The garden is beautiful. The bedding was sumptuous. The prices were high, however, and we found the service a bit flaky. It was cold during our stay and fires weren't lit soon enough. Tea bags aren't re-stocked. Breakfast choices ran out. We travelled with teenagers, so it wasn't good when the wifi was poor at best and often non-existent. The pizza supper was good but very expensive. It's not very enticing to leave Kuychi in the evenings to go out to eat because Urubamba is sprawling and Kuychi is out of town (and was hard to find when we arrived). The hiking was nice nearby and it's very easy to get to the salt pans. Market day at Chincherro was great. So mixed...
