Racial Discrimination Alert! ๐จ๐จ๐จ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ
Being racially discriminated is never a pleasant experience. Itโs a pity to have to leave a bad review on an otherwise good stay (excluding a shower drainage issue) --simply because weโre not Korean.
For context, we are international guests i.e. Singaporeans who stayed four nights. Thereโs a sign at front desk offering guests free transport around the area. Upon check-in, we inquired about the airport transfer stated on it which we were willing to pay for. Local staff said it could be arranged and we could just approach the front desk when we require the service. We have also been told that we could also utilize the drop-off service for free to the few locations stipulated on the sign.
However, 2 days later when arranging a ride to Balibago, in reference to the same sign, we were promptly told by Mr. Oh (Hotel Halo VP) that the free drop-off services are available for Korean guests only, because they pay a โpremium priceโ; evidence of which we did not see. This is not stated on the sign itself, their website, or any of the third-party booking sites. He was also extremely rude when he started questioning if our reservations derailed such services. But when we tried to explain to him that we the front desk staff committed to the drop-off services upon our check-in, he didnโt allow us to speak further after the words โno..butโ
Exasperated, he then proceeded to shove us to his Filipino staff, claiming that the drop-off service was a separate department from the front desk operations. Yet when they were happy to take us (itโs a 5-minute ride), he instantly interjected and reprimanded them.
Now, we understand wanting to look after for your own (the hotel is Korean-owned). If this is a small BnB that could not afford providing such services to all, or if we were abusing the service, sure. We have even patronized their overpriced restaurant twice and still we were turned away for racial reasons. According to Filipino staff, this often happens to local guests too.
Itโs disappointing that things like these still happen. If youโre Korean, we highly recommend staying here. Itโs clean, local staff are faultless, and Mr. Oh will likely accommodate your needs. Otherwise, we suggest taking your business elsewhere least you ruin your stay with an...
