We just got back home a couple of days ago from a 4-night stay at Hotel Galleria. As I stated in the title of this review, the hotel has an excellent location, affordable, but could really use an upgrade.||||First off, we chose this hotel because it is super near the Davao Doctors Hospital where the seminar we went to was held. I already read the reviews prior to our stay so I knew what to expect. Generally, with this hotel, you get what you paid for.||||But as much as I would like to give this hotel a higher rating, there are some things that they could improve on to deserve a higher score.||||Hotel Galleria has its own charm. In spite of the lack of amenities I would normally look for a hotel, Hotel Galleria is quite tolerable. ||||Below is a list of things that I think they could work on:||||1.) I booked a Junior Suite which you would expect to have the basic things a "suite" has to offer. However, when we got to our room, there was no phone and no fridge. I asked Front Desk about these, and we were installed a landline phone right away. However, the fridge came morning the next day. I booked and paid in advance so they knew we were coming. We also arrived late afternoon so there was plenty of time to get the room ready. ||||So I think that they could look into ensuring that everything the guests need in their room is all ready for their arrival.||||2.) I read about the staff being friendly, but there were only a handful that actually were. The receptionist needs to be a little more upbeat and more guest-oriented. The other receptionist when we checked out was worse. He was quite unfriendly. He didn't even show us the breakdown of the things I charged to our room. He merely gave us the full amount. I know I could have asked to see the receipts I signed, but this should be automatic. Also, when I asked him something, he looked as if he was annoyed that I talked to him. ||||I think it is extremely important for receptionists to always have a smile on their face and be approachable. Still, kudos to receptionist #1 for putting up with our several demands. I kept calling him to ask for the phone, fridge, slow internet connection, etc.||||Most of the housekeeping staff are friendly. I like them. As well as the busboy who helped carry our bags and whom I asked to buy for us a "sako" bag for the pomelos we bought as pasalubong.||||3.) Please install bidets in your toilet. I could handle the tabo in the shower, but bidets are a must. I don't think that it is that expensive to install them. ||||If not for these things, I would have given Hotel Galleria a...
Read moreOur First Stay in Davao – Disappointed but Hopeful for Improvements
This was our first hotel check-in during our first visit to Davao, and to be honest, I did not expect the experience we had. Having stayed in various 3- to 5-star hotels before, I naturally had higher expectations. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a relaxing stay turned into a challenge. I had to mentally redirect myself just to make the most out of it.
Let me start with the positives: the staff, in general, were nice, helpful, hardworking, and trustworthy. I truly appreciate their service. However, I have to point out that the receptionist, although kind, often appeared sleepy and not very alert — which didn’t give a professional impression.
Now, to the more pressing concerns: EVERYTHING NEEDS IMPROVEMENT. The building is clearly in need of renovation — it literally screams it. There was no landline in the room, which raises safety concerns. In cases of emergency or if a guest needs immediate assistance, this is a basic necessity.
The amenities were very lacking:
No bidet
No toothbrush or toothpaste provided
Bath towels were extremely thin and clearly overused
The carpets were dirty and gave off an unpleasant feel
I understand this is a smaller, older property, but even so, basic guest comfort and hygiene should be a top priority.
There’s great potential if management takes these concerns seriously and invests in renovation and better amenities. Until then, I hope future guests are prepared and that improvements...
Read moreWe booked this hotel for five days because of how it looked at the posted photos, good reviews and the swimming pool. My mistake was I didn't check the dates of when the reviews were made. Apparently, they were posted 4 to 5 years ago. When we reached the hotel, the lobby was dark and gloomy. No water in the pool. At least the man at the front desk was helpful and carried our bags to our room. The room was spacious enough but looked old and not really squeaky clean. The aircon is noisy but it's ok. At least it is working. The flush in the toilet doesn't do its job. You have to fill the bucket 🪣 with water and pour in the toilet bowl 🚽 to flush. The shower 🚿 is not properly maintained. Water stains are all over. When I was taking a shower, the water suddenly stopped flowing. Good thing there's still water in the bucket. I told the staff about the water and he said, the water pressure is low during that time. We can't live with this as we have a child with us. So I advised the front desk that we have to check out and not continue the ramaining 4 days. They understood and refunded the balance. If you are in a tight budget, there are other hotels nearby with smaller rooms but clean,...
