It´s an older but well kept and generously furnished hotel, European style and with lots of old-world-charme without being dusty or stale. The location is quite central, 5 minutes walk to SM. However, it´s the staff that make the stay disappointing. While being very friendly there are so many hickups. After I booked my room I tried to contact them by text to arrange my free airport pick-up. No reply. I used the contact form on their website, no reply. My third attempt was an email and it was answered affirmatively. However, when we arrived at the airport, no shuttle van. I called them from the airport and they sent the van to pick us up. "Sorry for the inconvenience". After check-in we were shown to our room, nicely furnished. However, we soon found out that the toilet was backed up. We asked the front desk to remedy the situation while we went out to SM. When we came back, nothing was repaired but they transfered us to a different room. This room was facing the highway and the aircon in that room is at bed level next to the place you put your legs. Without aircon the room is really hot, with aircon you are constantly moving and trying to avoid the direct blow because you are freezing. We actually had to move the beds away from the aircon across the room and block the direct blow by placing a chair covered with jackets in front of the aircon. Ridiculous. Breakfast next morning was disappointing, they have buffet, but they start at 6am and cook only one time, when we came down at 9 most food trays were empty or had just leftovers. "Sorry for the inconvenience." We placed the sign on our door knob asking them to clean the room and went out again. When we came back at 4pm the room had not been cleaned. "Sorry for the inconvenience." Housekeeping went to work on our room right away, they forgot to give new soap, shampoo, toilet paper and there still were hair all over the bathroom. We set our alarm early for the next day and the breakfast experience was better as there were still many choices available. I enjoyed the scrambled eggs with corned beef and brewed coffee. All in all it´s a charming place but just...
Read moreI loved this hotel!! ||||Although I only stayed for one night (Gen San was my stopover after a trip to Lake Sebu,) I loved everything about the hotel.||||Here are my general comments about the hotel:||||Pros:||- I understand that the hotel is a bit old, but it was well-kept||- The single room that I had was quite spacious and very comfortable||- The room prices are reasonably cheap by the way. ||- Very clean!||- Location was close to malls and a few minutes walk to Plaza Heneral Santos||- Has an airport transfer service||- They were very responsive even before I went there||- Their receptionists were friendly||- Close to some restaurants (like Tambilawan) and cafes||- Has amenities like towels, shampoos, etc.||- Has free wifi||||||Cons:||- For a guy who grew up in a noisy city, the area surrounding the hotel was WAY TOO QUIET for me, and there were not a lot of street lights near the hotel. (I feel that the area is safe, but I was a bit scared because it was just way too quiet)||- Breakfast buffet doesn't have many options, but to be honest I think it was decent for a small hotel||- It's a small hotel so don't expect any facilities like pools or gyms (this wasn't a big deal to me but it...
Read moreHotel San Marco is a pretty decent hotel with a charming Mediterranean-style exterior. I stayed in a Twin Room, and I was pleased to find it clean and spacious enough for luggage. They have Wi-Fi, an elevator, limited parking, bidet, and friendly staff, which made the stay more convenient.
However, there are areas that need improvement. The bedsheets are quite thin — if you want a duvet, it costs ₱300, and ₱100 for an additional blanket. Toiletries are very basic, and the wall paint looks outdated and could use a refresh. Adding lamps in the room could also improve the ambiance.
I had a shower issue — it was always hot, and no matter what I did, I couldn’t get cold water. Breakfast was plated on my first day due to low occupancy, but the rest of my stay came with a buffet breakfast, which was a nice touch.
The location is very convenient, right in the heart of the city — close to downtown, SM Gensan, restaurants, and cafes.
Overall, this hotel offers great value for the price, but would benefit greatly from some renovation and...
