I recently visited the Philippines for 3 weeks. I stayed at three hotels in General Santos (Avior, Green Leaf, and Microtel), and one hotel in Manila (Hilton near the airport). I am posting individual reviews in each hotel, but at the bottom is also a ranking of how each hotel did for each category, from best to worst. As you can see Hilton & Avior scored high and Microtel was bad.||||Summary: This was BY FAR the worst hotel of the 4. I wouldn't stay here again unless all the other nearby hotels and condos blew up simultaneously.||||Customer Service: The people were very friendly and accommodating. However, they lost one of my shirts (and a pair of socks) in the laundry and did nothing to take fault, reimburse me, or even apologize.||||Shower: The shower was flat out HORRIBLE. On the first day there was no hot water (which they tried to fix). The second day, the hot water was sporadic and literally switched from hot to cold every few seconds. The third day, there was limited pressure. And it continued like this the entire time I was there.||||Food: The breakfast tastes OK, but very limited choices. Basically pre-prepared egg (no live egg station), a single type of soup, a single type of rice (plain), one meat dish (which alternated), one other dish (which alternated), small quantities of fruit, bread, cereal.||||View: This is the ONE area where the Microtel was very good. They had a decent view out into their parking lot, which they have decorated/landscaped very nicely.||||Cleanliness: The floor and bathroom were clean. However, the beddings are old and stained. Also, there were tiny little bugs that were making their way into the room from the window-side!||||Beds: I got a room with two large beds. But as I said above, the beddings are old and stained. Also, the mattresses are not very comfortable.||||Air Conditioning: The AC unit worked fine and has a remote control. However, it blows directly over the beds which makes it uncomfortable to use while trying to sleep. Other hotels are not arranged like this...||||Pool: The Microtel has no pool.||||Gym: The Microtel has no gym.||||Value: The cost for a room here was close to what it cost at the Avior, and the quality is SO much worse here. AVOID this hotel unless you are getting an amazing deal! Anything past $30 (1,500P) per night is a waste of money for this place.||||Customer Service:||- Hilton, Avior, Green Leaf, Microtel||||Shower:||- Avior, Hilton, Green Leaf, Microtel||||Food:||- Hilton, Green Leaf, Avior, Microtel||||View:||- Hilton, Microtel, Green Leaf, Avior||||Cleanliness:||- Avior, Hilton, Green Leaf, Microtel||||Beds:||- Green Leaf, Hilton, Avior, Microtel||||Air Conditioning:||- Hilton, Green Leaf, Avior, Microtel||||Pool:||- Hilton, Green Leaf, (Avior & Microtel have no pool)||||Gym:||- Hilton, Green Leaf, (Avior & Microtel have no gym)||||Value:||- Avior, Green Leaf,...
Read moreI took a suite for a few nights (P3600/night) and, while calling it a suite is definitely a stretch, it does have a kitchenette and a separate day bed and window seat as well as the main bed. And despite the room being near the lobby, it was quiet at night.||The room (in fact the whole hotel) is a bit dated - oak veneer and cream paint everywhere - and there are quirks (ceiling fan with no wall switch, kitchenette worktop light that won't switch off unless you reach in and unplug it). On the plus side, the bed is comfy and the A/C is quiet. There's a table and chairs as well as a desk, and plenty of storage including a laptop safe. The bathroom is small but has everything you need.||The wifi, which is normally terrible in Gensan hotels, is actually good (60mbps, not many dropouts). Way better than the Greenleaf, Avior, East Asia and Grand Summit.||The buffet breakfast is fine, though sometimes there's irritating background music in the breakfast room. Overall the Microtel is still a decent budget option and staff are courteous...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel a couple different nights the last week and had a good visit, overall. The price is a bit expensive, the location is very good with an SM and restaurants within walking distance (I wouldn't recommend Cafe Amoree nearby), the staff are friendly and speak English, everything is clean and neat with no bad odors anywhere, the rooms were nice, clean, comfortable but simply decorated, the TV didn't work/connect at all, the A/C in my second room didn't work so we needed to move to another room where it did work, soap, shampoo & a toothbrush were provided but nothing more other than towels, nice, big shower, there was a closet to hang clothes, the complimentary breakfast was good & adequate for foreigners or locals, they did have a simple restaurant with a view items of food and different kinds of beverages (coffee, tea, milkshakes, smoothies, etc.) available, and they have a nice airport shuttle van that is available for...
