This hotel was booked because our first 2 choices were unavailable. It turned out to be a decent hotel because of its very quiet nature right at the shoreline where you can listen to the waves gently lapping the black sands and rocks. It was really nice to fall asleep with. There are a few rooms in a larger building and 3 bungalow cottages, which is what we had.
The showers have hot water here and it gets up to temp very quickly, unlike most hotels. The room was very spacious, but the tiny air conditioner installed fights a losing battle to keep the room cool during the day. Combined with a fan to circulate cold air, it is fine at night. The TV didn't have any access to any channels, so it was kept off.
The small bar/restaurant is nice and the staff are always smiling. The bad part is that the staff all go home at 9 P.M., so there is nobody there for anything in case of an emergency. We did notice that there was one or two people on the grounds all the time during operating hours, one in the bar and one keeping the grounds clean and tidy.
The Mexican-style food was decent, with plenty of cheese piled on, but far too many onions. It would have been perfect with a bit less. The free breakfast was decent, but the eggs were slightly under-cooked. There was a nice pairing of orange marmalade and sweet-cream butter for the toast, but the best part of the meal was the coffee. It definitely had the power to wake you up, but didn't taste that strong.
This place, even with a few misgivings, is actually a little diamond in the rough. With a few tweaks on staffing and cooking, this place would really get a 5-star rating. We will try this place again...
Read morePuesta Del Sol is a wonderful place to stay on the island of Camiguin. It is a very small resort --- only a handful of cottages --- but that is what makes the resort so special. It is not an exclusive, pretentious resort. In fact, it is homey and relaxing and embodies everything that is good about Camiguin. ||||The cottages are clean and well appointed, with cable TV, air-conditioning, hot and cold showers and very comfortable beds. The resort grounds are very well groomed and inviting, with well-kept pathways. There is a small plunge-pool, and the small, Mexican themed restaurant offers beautiful views from the patio of white island in the distance. The Mexican dishes are surprisingly good and decently priced.||||The resort itself is near to other more well-known resorts, but I would recommend Puesta Del Sol over its neighbors. The value is better, and the size of the resort means you feel completely at home. As an added bonus, you can walk to the other small restaurants and pubs nearby --- maybe only 200 meters down the highway. Luna Ristorante with excellent Italian food down the road is a must.||||Try to reserve ahead if you can. We got lucky when we visited --- there was only one cottage available when we stopped in. Around the island, try to visit the hot springs, cold springs and soda springs. The waterfalls are also nice and refreshing.||||I would highly recommend this small resort, and would gladly return if I'm lucky enough to visit...
