The first indication that we were going to enjoy our stay started long before we set foot on the island of Camiguin. We had a few questions for the property and they were quickly responded to. We called a few days before we arrived and again, the response was prompt and friendly. we booked the seaside villa and a rice paddy villa to accommodate our party of five, which included my hubby's mother who was celebrating her 91st birthday the week of our stay. We arrived at the hotel and were immediately welcomed by the friendly staff with tall glasses of calamansi juice and a slice of kalamansi tart. The check-in process was easy and we were escorted to our villas minutes after arrival. A member of the staff kindly gave us a briefing about the amenities and hotel policies. The villas were clean and each one had a feature that made it unique. The seaside villa sits right on the beachfront with a low fence and gate separating it from the flower garden leading to the black, volcanic sand. The small sitting area was our Mama's favorite place to hang out as she looked out into the Bohol Sea and the White Island that sat on the water not too far from the shore. It was a pity that she could not climb the steps and behold the sight from the tarp-covered rooftop because the view from there is even more amazing! It features an oversized tub, a dining table and views of the sea in front and Mt. Hibok-hibok in the back. The smaller rice paddy villa has a porch with a tub in front and we wondered how beautiful it would have been had there been an actual rice paddy there as we saw in the pictures online. However, there wasn't enough water to actually plant and cultivate rice. We were happy to see that they had at least some vegetables and herbs growing for use in the restaurant. The food was great! Their Thai and Vietnamese dishes were obviously cooked with love and quality ingredients. We could taste the freshness of the herbs in every bite. The menu is small and obviously intended to be so. Each of the plates we had was carefully crafted and brought us back to trips to Southeast Asia. The Filipino fare and coffee for breakfast was served to us at the seaside villa and provided great starts to the couple of days that we spent there. Despite hitting all the right notes on amenities, location and food, the best asset of the hotel is the people that made our stay even more special. From owners Mark and Carmel, Cha-cha, Carmela, Aljun and Ate Paz - each encounter (whether online, on the phone or in person) was warm and friendly. It felt like we had a reunion with long-lost family! What took it over the top was their surprising Mama with flowers and a scrumptious kalamansi tart for her birthday! More than anything else we experienced in this beautiful island, we took away the feeling that we would want to come back again, and again. And yes, we know we have a home away from home...

Read moreI read alot of reviews on Trip Advisor and Booking.com about how this place was great with amazing food (best in Camiguin) so I set my expectations high but sadly this was not the case for me. ||||The customer service is non-existent here. I paid on a nightly basis and didn't even get so much as a thank you or how are you enjoying your stay each time I paid (was there for 3 nights). When I checked out not even a thank you for staying or hope to see you again or anything...||||Also, they only service your room every 2 days which in itself is not a problem but I didn't even get a new bath towel on Day 3 which considering the humidity would have been appreciated. ||||That being said...the WIFI, fridge, hot water, and air conditioning worked great and the bed was super comfy with the room nicely decorated and a great veranda...they really did a great job on the decor and the little touches.||||As for the restaurant, I only ate there once as I'm vegan and their menu is super limited plus I found they were one of the most expensive restaurants in Camiguin with the smallest portions (and I have a small appetite). If you're vegan, head off to Kurma down the road...amazing food, great portion size and half the price.||||So all in all given the $86.00 Canadian per night...I would rate than as nothing more than average...better than some on the Island and worse than others...
