Hope Homes was by far the worst place we stayed at backpacking through South East Asia. It’s a shame too because the property itself was okay, the biggest issue was the incredibly rude and unfriendly staff. To start, the “free wifi” that they advertise only works in the lobby/outdoor restaurant area, it doesn’t reach the rooms. Anytime we would want an internet connection we’d be forced to sit in the common area, which wouldn’t be as big an issue except that they enforce a “no outside food or drink” policy, meaning that if you wanted to get a coffee or food from elsewhere (because the restaurant food was very unappetising) they didn’t allow you to sit & and enjoy your meal in the common dining area. We gave the restaurant food a try on our first night, and it just wasn’t good. ||On our first morning there, I asked for a cup of hot water and had personal tea bag that I used in the restaurant area to quickly steep some tea. I threw away the tea bag after 1 minute of steeping and sat there reading the news & enjoying my tea. The extremely rude owner came over and told me I wasn't allowed to drink my tea in the common area, and had to pack up my stuff and drink any "outside food" on our patio, instead of the in the restaurant, despite there being literally nobody else there. The bungalow patio was less than 10 steps away from the common area, and was still in full view of the restaurant (yet did not have an internet connection). It just didn't have a nice table to prop up my laptop/there's no internet, so I wanted to enjoy my morning tea in the common area. I felt that she was being petty by making me walk 10 steps back to finish my tea then before coming back to the common area. ||Anytime we got other food, we had to eat it on our bungalow patio. We just wanted to just eat at the tables in the common area and avoid eating on our laps/in our room as much as possible as to not attract bugs. I want to stress that the restaurant area is not a public restaurant, it’s only intended for guests at the hotel, so we are already paying to be there. The owner and his buddies also sit in the common area and chain smoke all day so it’s not a pleasant experience to sit in the common area if you want to use the wifi. ||We went out to dinner one night and had a few leftovers that we wanted to keep in the hotel fridge overnight. We were told no. I can understand not wanting guests to use their public fridge that they use to display the drinks/beers they sell, but they had a whole kitchen in the back room with a fridge that they still would not let us use. Again, we wanted to avoid attracting bugs as much as possible which is why we asked to use the fridge. ||On our first day there, they had a water dispenser in the bar area that we assumed was for public use, so used it to fill our water bottles. Not an hour later, the staff packed up the water dispenser into a locked room to prevent us using it again. If you were in the common area at night (10 pm) and they wanted to go to bed, they would also passive aggressively turn off the lights and fans even if you were still sitting at the table. ||They didn’t clean our rooms a single time in the 4 nights we stayed there. The sheet didn’t fit the bed properly so it kept falling off. The water coming from the tap was salt water and smelled really bad. The walls of the bungalow were also very thin, so you could hear everything going on in the main area. They also have 2 very yappy dogs that bark at everything, and at least 6 or 7 roosters that crow all day and all night. ||Lastly, it’s not very close to Alona Beach & there’s not much in the area. There are trikes available, but it’s at least a 25-30 minute walk to Alona Beach. The low cost is not worth it, don’t stay here. ||I’ve never dealt with less hospitable/helpful hotel...
Read moreI wouldn´t even rate this place 1/5 if it was possible!!! The place was ok, but what I really hated about this place was the female staff. She was extremely rude and I think a bit racist towards other filipino. I remember when we arrived on the island, I went to ask if there was any room and the lady (who claim to be the owner) didn´t give me any respond. Instead, one of her other staff told me that there were rooms, but were on the ¨expensive side¨. So I left and told my wife who was waiting for me at the bus stop if she could go ask about the rooms. Without a doubt I knew she was going to come back and tell me that there were rooms that were available that wasn´t on the ¨expensive¨ side. Which prompt me to think that the lady didn´t want locals to stay at her place. We ended up staying here because we were really tired that day. ||||I wouldn´t recommend this place to anyone, I mean a lot of the comments here that I´ve read that tend to give this place a positive review are mainly foreigners. Just know that you guys are supporting a place that from what it seems tend to be discriminatory towards their own nationality. So, please think twice before booking this place. Also, after leaving we spoke to some of the locals in the area and said that the woman that runs the place with her husband aren´t really the owners of this place. It seems to be a trend among filipino women who are young to tend to marry foreigners who are either twice their age or more. And once they are married to the foreigners they seem to think that they are better than other filipinos. I hope they fire or replace the management at this place, if they haven´t already.||||The female staff (wanna be owner) is both ugly...
Read moreWell were to start, the staff could care less!Never in all my life have I been treated so badly.Be aware of the free motorbike advert.in order to have the use of the motorbike|| you need to surrender your passport which is illegal, to hold your passport hostage, all other establishments ask for a deposit which is quite normal.|| The information on their website is misleading, moving on to the wi-fi does not work in all rooms.During the day time and early evening the staff treat the common area as if its their own,not caring for the guests in the slightest even being rude belligerent, due to the circumstances and the state of the room i chose to leave. Upon checking out my wife and i were verbally attacked and threatened. It is nothing like we have ever experienced in the service sector, one could say it was worst than high school bullying.|| The" co-host"JILLIAN,said to my wife that being filipina she should side with her and go against me because of the fact that they are both filipino, she should cooperate with JILLIAN,which is crazy because she is my wife.|| After that obviously this tactic did not work, then she preceded to insult and intimidate my wife" (BATI KAG NAWONG)-You have ugly face,(BATI KAG LAWAS)-You have ugly body or not good body".and also a empty threat to call the police, and all of this takes place outside infront of the establishment, into make things worse the staff joined in with the rude slurs.Needless to say we left there in a hurry.I could say more but you get the idea.Good luck and...
