After spending few days somewhere else on the island, I am surprised how horrible this place service is compare to how awesome the hospitality is anywhere else on this island. When we checked in, we asked if we there was availabilyy for extra days, the manager gave us a dirty look and say "well yes, but they are very expensive" and pull out a picture book pointing a room marked 1300 peso but told us we need to pay 3000peso. And the attudite he had was as though that was out of our price range. 2.When we went about town yo find accommodation for the additional nights we found a very nice guest house that told us they had all night electricity. It was through this conversation we realized that Ausan dod not have electricity through the night. As seasoned travelers we were not alarmed, but surprised the manager did not inform us when we checked in. We think that is a valuable piece of info to convey verbally to guests just arriving. Upon checking out we simply told the manager that the electricity going off in the night was not a problem, but it would be good of them to advise us upon check in. He then continued to scold us saying "if we are OBSERVERS we would know" and then pulled a large binder from behind the desk. He said it is in this book we should have read it. It was behind the counter and not presented to us at check in. Not that we need people to address us formally, but this manager is literally the only person we have engaged on this island he has not adressed us by ma'am and sir. No polite greeting whatsoever. The rest of the staff seemed nervous and on edge during our entire stay, and each small request or question to them was redirected through the manager. I really felt sorry for them, as I could see they seem to be walkingaround on egg shells under...
Read moreIf you are a big family, book multiple rooms! We did, but we could see other guests didn't do this and were miserable having to share a double bed between 4 people. Rooms are clean and basic: bed, bedside table, towels, toilet paper and soap provided. Our booking also included free breakfast every day. Bathroom was clean and gas hot water for showers (thank goodness!). Service was fantastic and happy to help where they can. We drove from Puerto Princesa to Port Barton. Go to the coastguard office/post by the beach and to your right is a very old petrol station. Past that is a walkway to a sari sari store on your right (they let us park in front of them) and up ahead is Ausan: small path with an archway. Head to the restaurant to check in. Food was fantastic and well priced. We tried other places to eat but quality and price was not the same. Nice beach but stray dogs everywhere. There are massage places along the beach too offering manicures and pedicures. No pool in Ausan so we went for a swim and lunch offered by a nearby fancier hotel a short walk along the beach. I called ahead to make a booking. Most hotels provide this swim and dine service. Just ask. Great sized pool with sun lounges facing the beach and restaurant facilities. Not so bad spending the day there. We booked with Ausan a half day boat tour to see the turtles, starfish and swim with fish. Only saw one turtle while we were in the boat, starfish were pretty cool and the best part was snorkeling with hundreds of fish. I will never forget how excited our kids were to be so close to them. Our stay at Ausan was great and I highly recommend for first...
Read moreI had a great stay at the Ausan Beach Front Cottages in September 2019. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and I was able to stay in two different rooms during my time. The first room was simple yet comfortable, and the second room was a room I paid a small upgrade fee to get the "treehouse" room. It had great views over the beach (although you could hear everything outside once people started talking, walking around, dogs barking, etc.).
The highlight of my stay was getting to interact with the staff. Aries went out of his way to ensure I was well taken care of, and he even picked me up on his scooter when I was walking to the van for my trip back to Puerto Princesa. Aries also helped me sign up for a island hopping tour with the tour guide named Shun (pronounced like Shawn). I had a great trip out to the various islands that day.
Ausan staff communicated quickly with me via Agoda booking site, and I was able to book additional features, such as a massage and the island hopping tour, via the site, which made it easier than using cash.
Overall, I felt like Ausan was one of the best options I noticed during my time in Port Barton. Their location on the beach is premium, and they have everything in one place and at competitive prices. You can easily walk along the beach to find additional restaurants at which to eat.
I look forward to visiting Ausan again someday, hopefully...
