Great hostel to stay at IF you want to party. If you don’t, do NOT stay here. The bar and the vibe here is really nice, it has a restaurant which is good, and a bar and at night it turns into a very nice vibe, they have live music and it’s a cool place to go. They also have a boat party that you can join, everyone has loads of fun. Very social hostel too. However if you are in the rooms you may as well be sleeping on the DJ deck and they are not sound proof at all, so if you plan on sleeping before 11:30, let’s just say you’re not gonna. I unfortunately did get really unwell here, and it was not a pleasant place to be when sick. However I’m aware that that’s not the case for people normally. The rooms were fine, beds were fine. Not the best ever but they were good. The toilets were a nice vibe, but the showers were possibly the worst showers ever. I really genuinely hope someone reads this and fixes them just because I wouldn’t wish these showers on anyone and feel bad for people who have to use them. They were FREEZING cold the entire time I was there, which was 4 nights, and the water literally dribbled out. No pressure AT ALL. I felt disgusting the entire time I was here because i couldn’t wash. And two different times I tried to turn on the shower and no water came out at all. Everyone in the room was talking about this too. Showering is such a vital thing for me and whenever we asked the staff about it they literally didn’t care. I felt the staff were friendly but they just seemed a bit lazy. I know working in customer service everyday can be hard, but it felt almost too relaxed, there was just a tiny lack of professionalism. They just didn’t care really. I would say maybe to come here at night, but don’t stay here. There’s no need to sleep at this place, just come in at night, it’s open...
Read moreOften I travel by stumbling along and discovering new things. I prefer budget travel as I can stay out stumbling along and traveling for longer periods. This is how I found my way to CoCoRico. I stumbled onto and into this full service nightclub, hostel, launch for boat trips off of Port Barton, singles bar and more! I had forgotten that people could party so hard and for so many hours, and night after night! Maybe the partying has to do with the rhum, which comes at an especially good price as it is produced in quantity here in the Philippines, where, compared to much of the rest of the world, rhum is treated more or less like a free good that needs to be consumed and enjoyed to excess. After dark descends the CocoRico rocks and rocks and rocks some more. And each night there seems to be a staged phase at which the dedicated employees (also rocking) jump up on to bar counter and commence with spraying jet-streams of rhum into the mouths of dozens of thirsty rockers. Many very attractive people stay here and party hard at the CocoRico. The moods is elevated as the guests are enjoying meeting one another. The spirits run especially high. Over the last week I have only seen people enjoying themselves to the max. The setting seems fully secure for those far from home and traveling through the Philippines as a curious tourist seeking experiences. The staff (waiters and waitresses) are capable and kind-hearted, on hand to assist. Miss Jodie took particularly good care of me as a guest who was determined to work his way down the list of mixed drinks and up the food menu of the CocoRico. If you would like to join others taking life's enjoyments to new heights, I can recommend a visit to the CocoRico that is located just about one block from the sea in Port...
Read moreIf you thought Palawan was safe from the threat of active volcanoes, well, think again. One has just emerged. It is me, after eating last night at Coco Rico. After having their greasy burger, I went home, only to realise that my stomach was bloated. I just drank a bit more water and went to sleep. Little did I know that during my well deserved, yet troubled slumber, immense pressure would build up inside of my stomach of the likes not seen since 5000 years ago when Santorini erupted, wiping out an entire civilisation from the face of the earth (Minoans) and leaving in its place an awesome yet troubling caldera - a reminder of what a fearsome force nature can be. This morning I woke up, and quickly ran to the bathroom. Lo and behold. Santorini 2.0. I’ve been at it since morning. Greenpeace members have shown a keen interest in what is happening here at my accommodation, given the disturbance in all things natural. I just hope that this rupture will wash away today or tomorrow. All in all, I am sure that I will be receiving a reply here from the owner saying that they take pride in their food etc etc, but I am not the only one to have experienced this problem. Check the other reviews. The atmosphere seemed fun there, can’t deny that, but STAY AWAY FROM THE FOOD. Also, it is extremely expensive for that...
