Lisbon South Hostel — Hotel in Almada

if I can save just one person from wasting a night here I will have done my job.

this place looks okay "on paper". and it probably was in good condition and stylish when it first opened. but the 9.8 rating sign posted on its wall must be from just the month after opening because now it is tired and worn, ill-maintained (the two taps in the kitchen for instance are so loose they are almost falling off )

But the real problem was the noise. a kitchen party was roaring until after 1030pm and until 2 and 3 am there were still people talking loudly in the kitchen.

Unlike other hostels where the bedrooms are far enough away, here everything is packed tight and the sound travels (ear plugs would have helped, but respecting some simple rules would better)

many of the residents seem to be staying Long Term - not travellers, more migrants. they are really settled in. the fridges are packed with food as if this were home

linens and mattresses though were fine.

but I have no idea how they have managed the 4.0 rating on Google. they rigged the system somehow. this is more of a 2.0 rating.

it won't kill you, but there must be better options....

Avoid this place if possible. The place looks like nothing has been taken care of in years. There isn’t proper wall between men’s and women’s bathroom so if someone is bathing in men’s bathroom, you can’t sleep. On the third day a huge window fell in women’s dormitory and the staff wouldn’t even take care of it, a guest from the hostel removed the glass from the floors. On the first day I had ants in my bed and was able to switch a bed. On third night a cockroach climbed in my bed. I wasn’t able to sleep well after since so I switched to airbnb. I’ve tried to contact the staff to ask for refund of the 4 days I didn’t use, but they...

Easily and by far the worst hostel I've ever stayed at. The guy from the desk was nice to give me a quick tour. However, the rooms and bathrooms were absolutely gross. Cleaning services don't exist, nor maintenance. Everything was either dirty, or broken, or both. It was bad to the point that I couldn't even stay for longer than 20 minutes. I immediately went to Booking and looked for a decent Hotel to stay. I then sent a request for reimbursement, which was denied, which is shameful because it'd be the bare minimum.
