Hotel Jardim — Hotel in Coimbra

This is not a place I recommend only because of the lack of morals values and integrity of the owners. When one has cameras and listening devices in the hallways to spy on guests, one knows this cannot be right. Lets start with the good points. It is very clean and the 2 delightful staff that actually run the pension and take care of it do their best to help but to no avail from the owners, Mara and Dona Audinha they take credit for the place still being open. It is called a hotel and has 2 stars but far from being anything but an abnormally cold house, with very uncomfortable beds, front rooms facing a very noisy Avenue where you will not get a wink of sleep, back of the building rooms very cold and smell of mould. Trying to have a hot shower is a task, oil heaters are provided but are too small to heat a room. The place by law should have 24hr security and you should be able to come and go, but by 9pm to 9am the place is locked up leaving guests and students outside to ring an interphone which is linked to the owners home to let you in, not acceptable! as you cannot stay out late without awakening the arrogant couple. I spent 3 nights as 2 young students of law friends of mine at the Coimbra University had paid to stay there for 6 mths and were treated appallingly, deprived of heating, hot water, their rooms and a kitchen so cold it is unusable and unsuitable for anyone. When I complained about the situation the owner Patricias remarks were " If you are not happy the door is there" Never in my life have I heard a Hotel manager or owner say something like that after paying £35 Euros a night for no sleep and inhumane cold conditions. So my last night I went next door the IBIS Hotel for 42 Euros and a beautiful breakfast with outstanding service. So if you are planning to study in Coimbra I suggest you make a deal with the Ibis Hotel next door or The Dolce Vita has flats you can rent much cheaper, modern, warm, and with freedom to come and go as you please. I am well travelled and I have owned and run a hotel in Barbados and worked as a PR for the Sheraton Hotel in Rio de Janeiro and as a Nurse now in the UK, This horrible place should be shut down as it offers no comfort at all for the prices they charge, and they charge for everything. I thank Mara and Dona Audinha for being so helpful and pleasant, Patricia nad Rui you are not fit to run anything as clearly you are both failures in your occupations, and you need a lesson in humbleness and professionalism, take a lesson...

We are very well travelled and we don’t expect the full blown amenities of a 4 star hotel at a two star price. However, the place needs some basic amenity usually found at an establishment at this price point. For example, an exhaust fan in the bathroom, more than 2 coat hangers in the wardrobe, a plug for the bathroom sink; pillows that are not lumpy and pillow slips that are not in suitable nick. We stayed in April but I should imagine that high summer and winter would not be comfortable as there is no AC or heating apart from inadequate portable units. ||A kettle and some tea bags and coffee sachets would be fantastic but that I wouldn’t expect. It would just push the experience into another more satisfying realm. ||Surprisingly the towels were large and soft, bravo for that! The wifi worked well. The bathroom is pretty old but it’s a cheap hotel! The road outside is being worked on but when finishing should add greatly to the hotel environs. The house is gorgeous but again the furniture seems mean. It could look and function so much better ||The general feeling of the place was that the owners are not terribly generous and haven’t really put the money into this absolutely charming hotel that it deserves. Nós selecionámos este simpático e acolhedor hotel por sua proximidade ao centro da cidade e ruas comerciais, bem como pelo seu valor para o dinheiro.||||Éramos dois casais, cada um com uma criança pequena, de cerca de 1 ano de idade. O objectivo da nossa visita de fim de semana a Coimbra era o de melhor conhecer a cidade e fazer algum geocaching (www.geocaching.com) que é um dos nossos passatempos favoritos. Ficámos uma noite de Sábado para Domingo em Abril de 2013.||||Localização: O hotel está situado em uma avenida central ao lado do rio (do outro lado da rua) e tem um bom e grande parque em frente, onde você pode desfrutar de um agradável passeio e também encontrar alguns restaurantes, bares e parques infantis. Perto você tem a ponte pedonal Pedro e Inês sobre o rio Mondego que dá acesso ao parque do outro lado do rio.||||Estacionamento: Você tem disponível (com alguma sorte) vagas de estacionamento na rua e nas vielas próximas com o pagamento de horas 09:00-19:00 dias úteis e aos sábados, das 10:00 até 01:00. Existe também um parque de estacionamento a 120mts do hotel.||||Recepção: O hotel fica situado num edifício clássico renovado, tudo muito limpo e com uma atmosfera jovem (parecia de alguma forma um hostel). A gerência e recepção foi realizada por uma senhora simpática que nos forneceu todas as informações sobre o hotel e serviços, bem como sobre dicas para a cidade e restaurantes e nos deu um mapa grátis da cidade e um número de telefone para emergências durante a noite. As horas de encerramento da recepção são às 23:00, mas você pode tocar a campainha para entrar após esse período. Como o hotel na manhã de domingo não tem equipe de gestão nas instalações, fomos muito encorajados a pagar antecipadamente, o que não constituiu um problema. O hotel tem uma pequena mas agradável sala de TV com sofá perto da entrada onde podemos esperar por amigos e parentes, ou simplesmente relaxar. Há também uma outra sala com algumas mesas e cadeiras se você quiser jogar cartas ou ler. O hotel tem também um elevador que não tínhamos de usar como o quarto estava situado no piso da recepção, embora separado por portas fechadas ara esta área para restrição de ruído.||||Quarto: O preço praticado foi justo. Não havia luxos, mas o quarto era arrumado, embora fosse muito pequeno. No entanto, nós e nossa filha de um ano de idade cabíamos no quarto, mesmo com a cama de bébé (fornecida prontamente pelo hotel). O lugar afigurou-se muito calmo durante toda a noite e pudemos desfrutar de um sono agradável. A cama foi OK em tamanho, nem grande ou pequeno, mas o colchão era muito duro, o que não foi problema para desfrutar de uma noite, mas que pode ser desagradável para uma estadia mais longa. A vista da janela dava para um pequeno jardim, quintal com árvores de fruto (laranjas acho). O quarto foi equipado com uma pequena TV, um pequeno armário e um aquecedor de óleo que nós não utilizámos dado que o tempo estava quente. A casa de banho encontrava-se limpa e tinha um bidé, sanita e, provavelmente, o menor chuveiro que eu já vi: eu não sou muito gordinho e tive que me esticar para caber através das portas de chuveiro, mas uma vez lá dentro foi “gerível”. Houve gel e sabonetes disponíveis.||||Comer: O hotel não tem café da manhã, mas você pode encontrar um buffet de pequeno-almoço no hotel Ibis (ao lado) por 7 € ou optar por um café da manhã económico em uma das agradáveis pastelarias locais na mesma rua ou na rua comercial nas proximidades.||||Geral: Foi uma boa opção, que serviu perfeitamente o propósito de nossa visita e nós certamente repetiríamos a estadia e recomendaríamos pelo o seu valor...
