LOFT brunch & cocktail restaurant — Restaurant in Funchal

After a long day of hiking, we needed some proper refreshment and got a taxi over to Loft. It had a really cool setup with a step-in, step-out design—kind of a blend between indoors and outdoors. We opted to sit outside while the weather was still fresh.

The menu is pretty vast, both for drinks and food. We both started with banana shakes. They were made with fresh banana, which was delicious, but the banoffee sauce was so subtle you could barely taste it.

For drinks, I followed up with a passion fruit mojito, which turned out to be one of the highlights. It had such a strong, vibrant flavour—really refreshing. My mum just stuck with a couple of coffees.

Food-wise, I went for a kind of beef mince taco with beans, cheese and salad. Mum had something more like a salmon tortilla. Both dishes were really well presented and everything tasted fresh. I wasn’t entirely sure how to eat mine, though. The taco was sort of folded and melty, so I gave up trying to hold it and just used a knife and fork in the end. Not complaining—it was still delicious.

A nice touch at the end was when I went to pay—the guy who’d made the mojito asked who had ordered it and was clearly proud of it. I told him it was me and said I really enjoyed it, which I genuinely did.

Disappointment. LOFT is not the same anymore."

This is truly heartbreaking. You used to be one of my favorite cafes in Funchal, but something has clearly gone wrong. I’m writing this review right after a deeply disappointing lunch because it’s impossible to stay silent.

I ordered a latte – it was sour, with milk that was obviously not fresh. This is unacceptable. The Hefesto salad was another disaster: instead of your signature delicious sauce, everything was drowned in cheap oil, and it wasn’t even olive oil. The mango was hard and inedible, and the salmon was both burned and raw inside, completely unsalted.

What happened to the LOFT that delighted us with its quality and taste for the past two years? It feels like either the chef has changed or the kitchen has stopped caring about its customers.

Please take this feedback seriously. This is not just a failure – it’s a tragedy for a place that used to set such a high standard.

And to top it all off, the cafe is supposed to be open until 7 PM, but at 6:27 PM, someone approached me and said they were closing because I was the only guest. Why am I not surprised? The food isn’t...

Simply wonderful.Absolutely adore every little thing about this place.

Atmosphere is very cozy.The place is designed with attention to the details.

The staff team was polite,attentive and very helpful in general . Remarkably friendly crew :) They provided clear explanation of the ingredients in English and set correct expectations about the size of a portion and wait time.

Food was prepared very fast (within few minutes). The portions are very generous in terms of size.

Menu offers selection of dishes for visitors with different tastes and preferences (perfect for meat eaters like me as well as offers few good options for vegetarians like my companion). Tasty and very creative solutions for meals. My personal favorites are the tea selection they have (had a chance to try different and all the flavors I tasted exceeded my expectations) and “ovos loft”+”wrap Via Sant Andrea” combination.

The price of order is fair and worth every cent considering quality and amount of food you get. The presentation of food was pleasant and eye-catching.
