As a frequent guest of the culinary gem that is Window to Asia in Funchal, I am thrilled to share my experiences after over five delightful visits. This restaurant consistently impresses with its fabulous service and an incredibly interesting menu that takes your taste buds on a journey through Asia.

Each dish is a masterpiece, but some standouts include the Wontons de Sechuan, bathed in a stunning sauce that perfectly balances spice and flavor. The Salmon served with creamy mashed potatoes is nothing short of awesome, cooked to perfection and melting in your mouth. For meat lovers, the Tataki de Vaca is a must-try, offering a harmonious blend of textures and flavors. And let's not forget the fabulous spring rolls – packed with fresh, vibrant ingredients.

An unexpected delight at Window to Asia is their range of homemade lemonades. The Kiwi and Pineapple versions are refreshingly unique, providing a perfect accompaniment to the meal. Moreover, the restaurant regularly features specials of the day, which are always a pleasant surprise and worth trying.

Pad Thai and Nasi Goreng are also the stars of the menu, they are great options for those who prefer classic Asian flavors

The innovative and carefully crafted dishes truly showcase the chef's culinary prowess.

In addition to its culinary delights, Window to Asia in Funchal boasts an impressive selection of beverages that deserves a special mention. Whether you prefer a robust red, a crisp white, or something sparkling, the wine list is comprehensive and sure to satisfy even the most discerning of palates. The staff's knowledge and recommendations can enhance your meal, guiding you to the perfect wine pairing for your chosen dishes.

This place was recommended by a friend so since I love asian cuisine I had to check it out!

We had duck gyoza, mains, and dessert.

Starter, Gyoza: It was pretty tasty, but calling this a Gyoza is not accurate at all. I have been to Japan and learnt how to make Gyoza first hand there and ate it a lot (it's a common starter there). Gyoza is fried on one side and does not come in sauce or has sauce on top. You get a small plate or pot and soy sauce+layu (+rice vinegar) to mix for yourself for dipping. This teriyaki sauce the "Gyoza" was drenched in really is an insult to someone looking for an authentic experience (WINDOW to asia..). Please do better on the Gyoza part or stop callying it Gyoza, just call it a dumpling.

Main, Red Duck Curry: Great presentation and sauce, especially LOVED that they used thai basil. What I didn't like so much is how they served it with the duck still pink. I get that for other dishes you want a pink duck, but in this case I don't think it fits at all. I prefer it the way I have had it countless times before: A crispy fried duck that is cooked all the way through. It just fits so much better with the sauce and rice. Speaking of it, the biggest letdown for me was the rice. The portion was small and the rice was not special or had any care put into it when in asian cuisine it will often be the star of the show. I think it's bad that Westerners never get to experience great rice and it would really elevate the dish.

Dessert, Mango Sticky Rice: Looks very good, but the taste was kind of boring. It was also lacking fresh mango for me.It came with a scoop of mango sorbet which I think is the same you can buy at pingo doce for 2,99. Don't get me wrong, that sorbet is great but it just felt a bit lazy. It's just rice drenched in condensed milk with some store bought mango sorbet on top...

I'm not reviewing anything else. To me the only thing that matters...

We discovered Window to Asia in Funchal through a quick Google search while seeking a change from the usual Portuguese fare, and we couldn’t have been happier with our choice. While the menu leans towards Westernised Asian cuisine, it perfectly suited my taste preferences.

The dishes were imaginative, flavourful, and beautifully presented. For starters, we enjoyed a delightful spread that included salmon sushi, beef tartare, gyoza, and summer rolls. Each dish looked to be crafted with care and packed with flavour.

Moving on to the mains, we sampled an array of options—nasi goreng, pho, pad Thai, and Szechuan beef. Every plate offered its own distinct and delicious profile, showing a thoughtful approach to combining diverse Asian flavours with a creative twist.

The restaurant is housed in a smart, modern building and is simply yet tastefully presented, creating a relaxed and stylish atmosphere. The setting perfectly complemented the excellent food and service.

What made the experience even better was the staff. They were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout our meal, ensuring we felt welcomed and well looked after. Their warmth and professionalism added to the overall positive vibe of the evening.

To top it all off, the meal was fantastic value for money, especially for anyone accustomed to London prices. The quality and presentation of the food, combined with the excellent service, made it feel like a true treat without the hefty price tag you’d expect back home.

If you’re in the mood for a fresh take on Asian cuisine in Funchal, Window to Asia is a fantastic choice. It’s a place where great taste, presentation, exceptional service, affordability, and stylish surroundings come together for a truly enjoyable...

It was the worst restaurant in my life. I am Asian and I know how Asian restaurants are generally like but I highly doubt if owner of this restaurant ever tasted their foods. I couldnt believe how its finally served to customers. The vege rolls had no flavor and every peices of vege were too thick to chew. They plated it pretty but it had no flavor. And the worst food was the sweet and sour udon noodle which was just stir fried with 'ketchup'. It even made my tongue so hurt because it was only too sweet having only ketchup flavor. Definitely no one wouldnt think it has a peice of effort in the dish. When I realized the value of this food it got me mad so much because it is 18 euro not just 10 or something else. I mean if you sell a food it should have a value according to the price. Also I figured the kimchi is not homemade but just any kimchi you can easily find in any supetmarket and it is still 8 euro :( I mean it is not 'expensive' but if its like double the price you should have put some effort at least. The fried wonton was also nightmare to us. It had no flavor and it was just mix of tofu inside not even a single peice of meat. No single food was good but coca cola. It would be too sad if foreigners think this is how Asian foods are like. Either the chef or CEO should learn basic of cooking like how much spices you should put in a food. The main dishes had tons of sugar even in pad thai. Actually it is my first time to make this long review for a restaurant. The experience in this restaurant will forever remain as nightmare to me. This may sound toxic but If you want to earn some money please serve foods that have some qaulity and effort not deceiving customers who purely want to enjoy Asian foods.

Not usually one to review on holiday, but this place is amazing - authentic, well presented South East Asian food in a lovely setting. Definitely the best food we had in Madeira (and we did a lot of research beforehand). 🥢 Booked last minute via Messenger and they accommodated us quickly and reserved us a table for two outside as requested. I should also add that both the inside and outside dining areas are beautiful in design, matching the high end aesthetic. As we were seated the service was friendly, attentive and organised. The staff lit a lovely smelling candle for our table, offered their recommendations and also highlighted specials of the day (I had the daily special of pineapple lemonade which was unreal and also a great size portion - it came in a nice carafe which filled up two glasses). 🍍 For food I ordered Nasi Goreng, while my partner ordered Szechuan Beef (and requested to swap the steamed rice for fried garlic rice which the restaurant did no questions asked). The food was beautifully presented, super fresh, authentic and absolutely huge portions - it tasted just as amazing as the food we had in Asia but with a modern twist! 🍚 Don’t think twice about visiting Window to Asia. If you want a fantastic, modern, yet authentic Asian dining experience in Madeira this is the place to be! 🇹🇭🇻🇳🇨🇳🇯🇵🇮🇩
