I really don’t like leaving reviews that are in anyway negative but o have had one of the worst experiences surprisingly at a hotel I was really looking forward to staying at. I booked this through a third party and using the photos online booked an interior room that looked bright and welcoming. The reviews are great overall and I was expecting a similar experience. We arrived and payed before we saw the room. Our mistake. I should have looked first but after an hour in traffic and working all day I could t wait to settle in and have a glass of wine.
I go to the room and it is interior. It isn’t nighttime it is still light out but wje. You enter the blue interior room, it has one single light bulb that emits a pale light for the front area that had a weird single bed, no couch as it looks like a daybed in the pictures and a chair. Opening the blinds did nothing to increase the light and it is to dark to read and no table or place to work or even really sit.
The bed looked nice, never sat on it as I went to the bathroom and saw that it had a tub which I expected but it has a heavy black shower curtain around it and when I looked it has a handheld shower wand with no place to put it for a shower. The room does not feel or look welcoming, bright or airy. I asked immediately at the front desk if another room was available and they said yes but only one of the two nights. We would sleep in it once and then have to pack check out and move back into the room that was unacceptable.
At this point we had to make a decision. We’d already had to cancel a business dinner due to the problem. They insisted because it was booked with a third party we need five days to cancel and get a refund. We are here for work and did not have the capacity to check out and have breakfast and make our scheduled meetings. We would not return to the other room and they said no partial or full refund.
We left, we felt so disappointed in the welcome, experience and quality that we booked another available property not nearly as nice but it least it has a shower and light.
They will reply saying it’s a policy and it’s plenty of light and we offered one night change etc. the point is be careful. The pictures of the interior “family” room blue color does. It feel or look as inviting and bright as the images and definitely y have anyway to have a real shower. Lesson learned. Instead of making a new customer that would come back to a different room. I will never book it again. If my client was dissatisfied and shared it immediately I would happily refund and assist them with a booking that...
Read moreThis is no 4 star hotel, it feels more like a nice hostel with breakfast. Lets start with the good.
Pros: -Room was dark -Room was clean -Bathroom was nice and large for a hotel -Room was quiet to the outside noise(but not inside noise) -Front desk staff was friendly -Location is great
Cons: -Room is very noisy from other guests in the halls and above you even if they are being quiet -There is no front desk or any hotel staff after 9pm so late check in requiers extra steps and is not posted to inform you while booking. There were people looking for extra towels and other help past 9pm that didnt know about this timeframe. -There is no secure area to store your luggage, they put it in a common area where guests and staff have access -No in room safe -No in room refrigerator -We were here for a week and used up the body wash and they didnt have any extra during our last three days. When we told the front desk they didnt have a solution for us and just said we would let the manager of cleaning service know. -Breakfast is ok but was not up to the stardards of even the 3 star hotels we staying in while traveling in Portugal. No cooked breakfast meats, scrambled and fried eggs are to order, which could be great butnthey only have one or two people making them, celaring place settings, refilling food, etc. They were often busy and had too many responsibilities. Breakfast gets picked over and is limited if you're not down by 830-9am. We were often told they were out of things we wanted.
If you just want a bed to sleep in and place to shower this hotel is decent. But again feels more like an upscale hostle with breakfast. Definitely not a 4 star hotel and not up to the standard of other 3 star hotels we stayed, let alone 4 star ones.

Read moreBeautiful in photos but disappointing quality. Service might have been good a few years ago but it felt closer to a hostel than a four star hotel.
Major issues: No reception or apparent service after 5pm. I asked for some wine glasses in the evening and didn't hear back until the next day. What kind of hotel provides no service during the hours where guests are usually in their rooms? Moldy bathroom, perpetually smelled like someone had just used it despite being cleaned. No soundproofing, you can clearly hear people upstairs, cleaners walking and talking in the halls, and construction workers outside. Did not feel private. Bed, sheets, and pillows were not comfortable. Feels like they bought the cheapest things possible at Ikea. The furniture is also damaged and falling apart. Lots of particle board with deteriorating veneer.
Smaller but noticable issues: There are two Nespresso pods in the room but the machine is downstairs and it costs £1 per pod. Inconvenient and oddly stingy. The building is definitely showing its age. The stairs are heavily warped and slippery. The hallways smell old and musky. Our main bedroom light had fluorescent lighting (think empty office late at night). A seemingly small detail but it really kills the vibe of the room at night, making it feel cold and unfriendly.
Nice things: Decent wine and pretty good cheese included. Location is pretty central. High ceilings and historical feel Some rooms have a nice balcony, others have a view of construction on the...
