Spent an enjoyable 6 nights at this B&B in Sagres, and were completely won over by its charm, decor, situation and staff. We had a (cheaper) non sea view room which proved to be a bonus as it remained cooler during the day and had a wonderful view of the famous Sagres sunset. Room was spacious, king size bed (very comfy), ac, decent TV, minibar and good sized bathroom.||||Breakfast is a buffet and was perfectly adequate - selection of breads, cold meats, yogurts and fruit: pretty much on par with European hotels. Although it was in a basement dining room, it was bright, spacious and you had the option to bring your brekkie upstairs to the terrace. The coffee shop is brilliant: great staff with excellent English and Spanish, lovely coffee and cakes. We often skipped desert in other restaurants so we could nip back there for coffee and ice cream!||||Location is excellent- 3 minute walk down the hill to the lovely Mareta beach. If you have a car, then Martinhal beach is about 5 mins away, with windsurfing, foiling and sups available for hire from Joel in Wind4all. In the other direction is Beliches beach, which is more sheltered, but 157 tricky steps make access a challenge, but worth it.||||All the bars and restaurants in the town are within easy reach of the hotel. Parking is usually pretty easy at the side of the hotel on the little square - but bear in mind it's a one way system so you must drive out towards the fortaleza and around to get back to the town. Takes 2 minutes, so wasn't a hassle for us.||||We are already planning a return trip...
Read moreAfter visiting a number of other 4* hotels along the south coast we couldnot but be disappointed with Mareta View Boutique. It may be due to different levels of service deemed acceptable for a Boutique hotel compared to larger hotels, but we missed small and larger touches that would make it worth 4* (or even 2*)
Like for example: upon arrival a simple inquiry how the journey has been goes a long way warm dishes for breakfast are absent (even the boiled eggs were cold). lacking simple amenities in the room (coffee, tea) at breakfast no fresh fruit juices, nor home made marmalade
The voucher for a free bottle of wine is a nice gesture. For those being price sensitive, it seems attractive to get a bottle of €16 for free. However the market costs of the wine offered is around €5 and the menu of the other Italian restaurant is significant more economical (we did not go there and don't know the quality of the food.) Please view our review of D'Italia Pizzaria.
As the weather was quite cold, we needed to heat the room and after consulting the receptionist it took at least 30 mns for a slight change in temp. Combined with the slight scent of humidity in the room it is not comfy. So ask a second keycard to keep the aircon on.
Is it all doom and gloom? No, the small but tastefully layout of the garden with the view over the ocean as well as the love seat are...
