This beach is nice but less scenic than the the other beach in Sagres: Praia do Tonel. However while Praia do Tonel is the go to beach for surfers, Praia da Mareta is more sheltered and therefore fitter for your typical lazy day and bath in the sea: less wind (although wind is omnipresent in Sagres), quiet and slightly warmer (but still cold) waters. The beach is quite wide, with a small part catered with beds and umbrellas. Water is very clean. When I visited I found no algae apart from the very far ends of the beach. There are both a bar and a restaurant. The beach was not crowded at all, even on the late July day when...

It’s a nice beach with good parking options and a bar / restaurant. It isn’t too crowded and the waves are big enough to have fun but small enough for the kids to play. It’s not windy as it’s shielded by the surrounding cliffs and the water is less cold than the western Atlantic-facing beaches. One thing to watch out for are the tides - at high tide the beach almost completely disappears so don’t stick around too long or you’ll have all your stuff wet being caught off...

We’ve been coming to this beach for years, but this year was probably the last time. The surrounding restaurants Chiringuito and Mar a Vista let their septic tanks overflow and the filthy water flows down to the beach. Locals told us, they’ve been complaining to the town hall repeatedly without any action. I hope that by posting, authorities will act. What happens at Mareta beach is heart breaking and an unknown...

Gorgeous beach between rocky cliffs. There’s a restaurant on the beachfront where you can park if you eat/drink there. Or you can park further up, in the large parking lot next to the Mar á Vista restaurant and walk down. There were a few surfers, but other than that we had the beach to ourselves. There’s an overlook right up the road going towards the Navigator Hotel/Pontalaia Apartments, beautiful spot to take some photos

Cleaner than Martinhal beach & slightly warmer than Tonel beach. Clean water with some pebbles as you go in. Little windy & wavy, but safe to swim. No public showers or changing rooms, as in most beaches around here. Has plenty of space to sit down with your own beach chairs. Renting an umbrella + 2 chairs cost 13€ at the time. I’d advise to come around 10-11am for a decent parking space.
