I chose Grand Hyatt just because of the balcony.
I knew is an old hotel, we were living in Doha when they opened... but didn't expect it to be so dated and dirty. During COVID times I was expecting a spotless room...I had a surprise!
Not everything was bad, but my rating is due to the lack of cleanliness of the room and the lack of organization for meal times.
Vanessa at check in was wonderful. I was concern about the coffee and she offered us a Nespresso machine in our room, a lifesaver. In general, all the staff was kind but most of them not very helpful even though they have very good intentions.
-The room is conformable, we had enough space to move around. It’s great to have an outdoor space and to be able to ventilate the room properly. However, the balcony when we arrived was already dusty and even the chairs had bird's poo on them. I am attaching pictures.
Meals didn't have a lot of variety but they were tasty. However, logistics were terrible.
On the other hand, we ordered delivery thru Talabat we always got it right away, por orders got to our room almost immediately after it reached the hotel. So obviously not the same people in charge of logistics.
But really, my main concern was the lack of cleanliness in general but specially the bathroom and the balcony. I am attaching pictures...it shows lack of supervision. The carpet wasn’t properly vacuum either. And we had to use towels to be able so sit in the balcony...chairs were just too dirty. I know it’s difficult to keep a balcony clean, we live at the Pearl but his one hasn’t been cleaned in a while...
I complained the first night to guest services and asked for a vacuum and cleaning products (didn’t mind to clean myself) but they offered to send housekeeping. It was too late and I told them to wait until the next day, never got the follow up next day and I didn’t push it because we didn’t want to get expose to more people. My main concern is with this pandemic it is more important than ever to have everything properly clean...and if you see the pictures I took you will understand my concern.
Another problem we had was too much contact with hotel staff, for example, when we arrived we didn’t have water in our room, nor the Nespresso machine they offered at check in so we called and asked for this...they brought one bottle of water, the Nespresso machine and one capsule of coffee...we were two people and we drink a lot of water normally so we asked for more water and more coffee capsules. We got 2 more, and the point is that yes, every time I asked for water, coffee, towels, etc they answered promptly and within an hour I get what I asked for but they don’t leave the stuff at the door (even though I asked for it). They nocked at the door and I had to get the stuff from their hands...this is wasn't smart for us or for the staff, we are in quarantine. We reported this to the management and got zero answer.
Another important matter were the medical services, we didn't see the doctor not even once during our stay. The nurse whom checked our vitals was really nice but we were told the doctor will check on us next day and nothing... Also our Ehteraz didn’t change until DAY 4, we reported this to medical services on day 2, and 3 and they say not to worry...well we got tested on day 6, check out on day 7 and our Ehteraz didn't change until DAY 11! 109 told us it was because the medical services didn't send the info on time so the Ehteraz was delayed. I don't know if this is true or we simply had bad luck but beware, if your Ehteraz doesn't change to yellow, IT WILL BE A PROBLEM FOR YOU.
The food's logistics seem to be tricky...sometimes we got just one meal, sometimes some of the food in one of the bags was missing, sometimes the dressing was missing, sometimes we got a bag with a different room number on it, the cold stuff usually arrived quite warm but then the hot stuff was barely warm...
Won’t recommend it, and won’t be...
Read moreWe can’t say enough good about our stay at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Doha. Everything was such a pleasurable experience. However, we believe based on our experience that the management at the Grand Hyatt has a professionalism that is becoming more today. For example, even prior to our arrival, my husband shared with me how impressed he was while communicating through email with the entire team in the correspondence department when he had some questions and inquiries. My husband said emails were answered in a very timely manner. Impressive! ||One of the things that my husband communicated with the team was inquiring if it would be possible to have a surprise waiting for me in our room as we were celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary. Sure enough, a delicious dessert was there waiting for us, welcoming us and saying on the plate in chocolate, Happy 24th anniversary! Lovely! ||This professionalism doesn’t stop with the management or correspondence department; as the whole team, starting from the door when you enter, to the front desk full of warm smiles to welcome you, to the lounge on the 5th floor, the service is nothing short of excellence. We wish we could remember every name, but two individuals that come to mind are Gabriel and Bikram. We appreciated their professionalism. The entire team was a delight in the lounge. For example, one afternoon while in the lounge, I inquired of Gabriel if the hotel had a lost & found as I lost my sunglasses. After Gabriel asked me a couple of questions to access on how to help, before I knew it, he was on the phone making calls, and it was only minutes later the glasses were back in my hand! Thanks again, Gabriel! Who wants to loose sunglasses in a wonderful, sun-filled land? |The lounge is beautiful and inviting, with big, plush sofas and plenty of chairs to spread out and to find a quiet space to relax. I would go to the lounge to have tea or coffee in the afternoon and just read. It was a lovely experience. ||The lounge also adds much during the 6:00–8:00 period. It was great as there was a variety of dishes, from rice, meats, veggies, cheeses and lovely desserts, wine and other beverages. We enjoyed it all. Breakfast was delicious, and Surei (hopefully spelled correctly but his name means rays of the sun) offered exceptional service. He made sure that nothing was lacking.||The complimentary breakfast offered at the Grand Hyatt was very nice. You can see how careful attention was given in making sure all the dishes were International to keep everyone happy. Of course, the team in the restaurant was happy to help and assist when needed, despite being so busy! ||The beach was wonderful; I can’t say really anything more about the beach except that we enjoyed our time there very much as the water was warm.||We had a clubroom on the fifth floor. It’s hard to pick a favorite in the room. The tub is fantastic and provided with soothing bath salts. The balcony had very comfortable chairs to sit in and look out on a beautiful view. We loved those chairs and didn’t want to move from them. It was a very nice clubroom located on the top floor!||We travel all over the world and thankfully have many wonderful experiences, but that being said, a lack of diligence and a certain professionalism can be lacking in the world of management and correspondence today. However, this cannot be said about the Grand Hyatt in Doha. This was incredibly impressive, and this was in reflected in the entire team at the Hyatt. From the manager named Innocent at the front desk to Binee Thapa and the reservation team. Everyone was wonderful.||Thank you for making it such a lovely experience. We truly hope to see...
Read moreWe have visited the Grand Hyatt a few times before and this last one was by far the worst visit EVER!! We booked for our family and friends for our birthday brunch at Isaan. Firstly, due to using the entertainer voucher they insisted we had to pay a surcharge for the alcohol part of the package. It should have been 100 QR each for the alcohol part, they insisted on 149 QR each, their reason was that we had used the entertainer voucher so we had to pay more than regular customers! Continuing their theme of trying to milk every last Riyal from the customer, they were offering my 13 year old daughter (who looks her age, certainly not 21!!)the alcohol package. I intervend. They then proceeded to serve my 15 year old son alcohol in a bid to get all the money they could! After complaining they decided to waive the cost of some of the brunches, for us 4. We then went to Roccos as a group for drinks. During which time my husband was looking for the bathroom. He asked the chef where it was as he was the only staff around, his reponse... 'I don't F'ing know where it is!' SERIOUSLY?!?! A terrible response at any establishment, but from a 5 star hotel like the Grand Hyatt?!?! Disgusting! After here we continued to the shisha bar. During which time one of our friends (who is a Hyatt club member and goes there regularly) asked for some drinks. Rather rudely two members of staff came over and told him that the bill needed to be settled first. We said no problem. The members of staff continued their character assassination of us, saying they know we have no intention of paying and so want to deal with it. We had every intention of paying! Our friend asked for a manager and got quite upset at their demeanor and attitude. I then proceeded to the main reception to ask for the duty manager. He was next to useless. Didn't offer any support etc. When I returned to the Shisha lounge the bill had arrived. Half of the charges had already been paid!! Other people who had been with us earlier had ordered drinks and paid as they went along yet they still tried to add them to our bill. I was 100% clear on what had been ordered and what had been paid for yet they refused to listen. I chose to leave as by this point our Birthday celebrations had been completely ruined and I was completely humiliated by their disgusting attitude! Our friend chose to pay the bill in full, presumably as he would return to make use of his Hyatt Club card... I would not have done as at least 400 QR of charges had already been paid!
The whole experience was truly awful! NEVER would I return to this hotel and if was able to give negative stars then I would! If you decide to take your chances at this sub par excuse for a 5 star hotel then I suggest you document everything, keep receipts of friends who have already left, have receipts for any orders and have them witnessed..... This 2 bit company will stop at nothing in order to get extra riyals...serve underage guests, charge extra if you dare use a voucher, add items onto bills, treat you like scum!!! Truly disgraceful, shocking, upsetting, disgusting, disrespectful behaviour from staff across the board. We shall never consider...
