Small picturesque hotel with an extreme quality, price balance.||When I first booked it, I expected not too much to be honest, but I was overall very pleased. First of all there is the woman at the reception, Irina, she speaks reasonable English and is really there to help the customers, which is a pleasant surprise.||||The room itself is ok, not too spacious, the beds are a bit old fashioned, but clean and you sleep well. The shower is fine, all is clean. Also a small kitchenette, not for a five star dinner. But heating up some sausages or so can be done. ||And very handy, there is a fridge, empty, where you are free to stock whatever you like. There is no alcohol sold in the hotel, but a cold beer can be arranged like this! Also there is a locker, although I felt so safe I did not even use it. ||The sign near the toilet means you have to put your paper in the bin, do not flush the paper!||The only downside is the fact that the walls seems to be made out of paper, so take some earplugs and you be fine. ||||The hotel itself is devoted to Romanov, in a typical Russian way. It is really cool if you like some historical touch, it almost looks like a museum. The hotel is some kind of cross over between typical Russian homes and a more Western hotel approach. Breakfast is good (Russian), free tea and coffee is all day available. ||||Than the location, a 10 min. walk from Moskva station, where the high speed train out of Moscow arrives, I did not even take a Taxi. On the same square of Moskva station you will find the subway. Trolley bus 22 is only a 3 min walk away from the hotel and takes you in 10-15 min into the the center (40 roebels). You can even choose to walk to the center, it is around the corner, walking all Nevsky Prospekt, ending up at the Hermitage is a 45 min walk, which I would really recommend. Lot more to see walking than under the ground in the subway :-).||||The reception is occupied 24/7, which gives a safe feeling and is really handy. For non russian speaking: Press 1 on the keypad and they will open the door.||||So if you are budget minded, want to be close to center and don't necessarily want to be in a typical standard hotel environment this is a very recommendable place.||I really liked it and had a very nice stay. ||||It was much better than my expectation based on price. My next visit to St. Petersburg will certainly...

Read moreWe were 4 adults friends visiting the city for the FIFA worldcup so we reserved in advance the studio room, which supposed to be large enough to host us. To our dissapointment, there where only two single tiny beds and two small single kind of coachs arranged in parallel side by side, leaving no space to move inside the room. The mattresses were too hard, far from comfortable so resting at the end of the day was impossible. The bathroom is also small and there was a leak from the shower so even the old dirty carpet in the room was wet. They wanted to fix the leak when we were resting at the room and upon our refusal they insisted to make the work. We needed to be VERY assertive to make the point clear and finally they gave up. It was a very unpleasent situation. As per the English - lack of: it was impossible to manage a simple conversation. We needed assistance with the flight company because one of our suitcases didn't arrived and getting info from the front desk was mission impossible, even when we tried Google Translate. The lady in charge finally made the phone call but her attitude was far from be friendly or servicial.|Another annoing thing was that they requested the payment in cash and in advance, meaning during the check-in so we were out of cash from the very beginning of our stay in the city. Breakfast is decent: coffee, tea, pastries, bread, one slice of cucumber, two slices of cheap salami and a boiled egg. Jam and margarine/butter, we were not sure. |There is no lobby and because we were 4 adults, we needed to use also the tiny WC in front of the reception however it was so small that you need to enter backwards. As per the location: far from the city center like an hour walking or 20 minutes by bus.|Bottom line: not even a one star hotel, far overated. You can get better options for the same price and their attitude can easily ruin your...
