I stayed here for five nights in a Superior Room.
The room was smallish and nicely presented. Fundamental items that would have been nice include an iron, a chair and a box of tissues. Neither were in the room and on asking reception could not help with tissues. Lack of a chair meant I did work from my bed...
The range of foods at breakfast was great however I frequently experienced a disjointed service - some mornings no butter, no forks, no coffee cups, or the coffee beans in the machines was empty and orange juice also. The staff seemed to be busy socialising with each other out the back or on their phones, which I think made the problem worse. More than once my table food was cleared while I waited on staff to fix something so I could get a coffee etc. if you go to breakfast here, bring a coat to hang on your chair and signal staff that the table is still occupied. Although even that won’t always help.
The room was always too hot. I turned off the central heating and reverse cycle air conditioning. I was not able to activate the cooling function at all.
There is no self serve laundry facilities here and laundromats are a foreign concept here. A small load of washing through the internal laundry service cost me 3260 rubles. Very expensive. Worse still the clothes came back smelling a bit like cigarettes, much like the entrance to the lobby of the hotel. Locals warned me not to use the internal laundry service for thermals cause they’ll likely come back melted!
Despite all this, the reception staff had reasonable English and tried to be helpful and best of all the room was clean. Well done housekeeping! Best of all, the hotel has wonderful views on the front side, however if you want to experience those from your room you’ll need something better than a superior room.
Perhaps I will stay here again, with lower...
Read moreWe stayed here as part of a group and were told we would have a river view. We did and wow, what a view.||This is a very large hotel that caters for many groups visiting St Petersburg. Check in was a little slow but understandable with the amount of guests arriving.||Room on the 3rd floor was large and airy with a full length window giving a fantastic view over the Neva River. Comfortable bed, large flat screen TV, sofa and separate room with writing desk, fridge, safe and tea/coffee making facilities and well as a decent size bathroom made for a comfortable stay.||Breakfast room is huge, well I suppose it has to be considering the size of the hotel and never had to wait or search for a table. Something for everyone at the many serveries including omelettes made freshly to order. ||We drank in the hotel bar before retiring for the night. Prices are decent and so is the beer. We also had a snack in there the first night which was nice.||Location right on the river. Local restaurants and a convenience store round the back. Short walk to Cruiser Aurora and about a 25 minute walk to the far embankment so for us location was fine.||For those night owls or like us getting an early flight home, the hotel is a great vantage point to watch the raising of the bridges across the river at night. ||My only two negatives are... tea and coffee replenishment in the room was a bit hit and miss as to what you got and I wish there was baked beans at breakfast and not kidney beans. I know it's not the end of the world but little things matter.||Lovely stay and would not hesitate to...
Read moreWe stayed at Hotel Saint Petersburg and found the location good for visiting the city.Unfortunately, not all of our experiences with the staff were positive: some people – in particular one at the reception and one in the restaurant in the evening – were rather unfriendly with us, perhaps also because we are Italian, and they were not even able to inform us that European Visa and Mastercard cards were blocked due to sanctions. One aspect that definitely needs improvement is cleanliness, both in the rooms and in the restaurant, especially considering this is supposed to be a 4-star hotel. On the positive side, breakfast was very rich and varied, and we would like to sincerely thank the staff members who made our stay more pleasant: the young man preparing omelettes in the morning, two receptionists, and one of the ladies welcoming guests at the restaurant in the morning. All of them were kind, helpful, and professional.Overall, the location, breakfast, and some of the staff deserve a positive mention, although we regret that not all the service and staff lived up to the expectations of a...
