TheDOM — Hotel in Basmanny District

Stayed for 1 night in a Double Room with Shared Bathroom. The room is a decent enough size with a comfortable bed. There are 2 shower rooms and 2 toilets. There’s a nice little sitting room area and kitchen area. Location wise, Kursk and Chkalovskaya metro stations are both around a 8-10 minute walk away from the hostel so getting to pretty much anywhere in the city is easy. Staff talk pretty good English, the wifi was quite temperamental during our stay, sometimes being really slow due to a weak connection. ||||Breakfast is really poor, when we went there wasn’t really anything left which was disappointing, along with another 2 guests who were also left disappointed. They have what’s available for breakfast on a bit of paper in the kitchen which is very portion controlled but considering what was left obviously isn’t followed. Seems to be more first come first served.||||Overall, the hostel is nice enough but if you’re choosing accommodation based on breakfast then I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place. Hostel Dom is very well located, with friendly staff and decent WiFi. I also slept well on my first night, enough to forget the slow, near 30 minute, check in.||My second night was incredibly noisy as a large group arrived at midnight and left six hours later. There's no hiding that cheap laminate floor is a terrible sound insulator.||A modest breakfast is left out in the kitchen. Along with a rat the size of a small football. I shrieked. My train was departing in the evening so left my bags at reception (100 roubles, pretty sure I've never been charged for the priviledge before). Stayed here for location close to train station and convenience to city. It is cheap but is definitely best avoided. Checkin took 30 minutes as the girl on the desk was quite hopeless. Had settled into room and unpacked when she informs me that she has put me in the wrong room and I have to move at 10pm at night.|The beds are dreadful and should be thrown out. Woke up with back pain every day. The place is very noisy at night. Hard floor surfaces, thin walls and slamming doors ensure a poor sleep.|Breakfast is included but not worth bothering about.
