Grand Legacy Hotel — Hotel in Kigali City

My colleagues and I have stayed at this hotel for at least 8 years. I just got done with a stay here in January. By the time the week was over, I had so many notes about what is wrong with the hotel that it overwhelmed me.||I was going to write a long detailed review, however, after being home now for 10 days, and leaving for another long trip in 2 weeks, I find that I just do not have the time.||I have travelled to over 50 countries for the past 40 years on a regular basis. I have stayed in the best and the worst. But I don't think I have spent this much money for this level of bad hotel in my life. This hotel should be about $50 a night, not triple that.||The customer service at the hotel has gone downhill in the past 4 years or so. Personally, I think it corresponds to when the owner of the hotel turned over the management to his son.||The only reason I keep staying here is because it is the only real hotel on over near the airport. It is my only option. I have to be over on the east side of the city. All the actual good hotels are in center city. But I can't stay there, because the traffic is so bad that it would take me too long to get back and forth in the morning and evening.||Unless this hotel spends some money and upgrades their facilities, they will be out of business in a few years. The place is filthy. They don't appear to spend any money on maintenance. The only way something gets changed or fixed is if you beg them to do something and even then it may take days to do it.||The only reason to stay at this hotel is if you need to be on this side of the city. Otherwise, you should avoid the Legacy.....which will have no "legacy" to leave behind when it goes out of business soon.||I'm sorry to leave such a bad review. But I have spent hundreds of nights in this hotel in the past 8 years, and it just keeps getting worse. ||If someone in the hotel is reading this...you need to spend money to deep clean the hotel. You need to spend money on training your housekeeping staff. Get someone in from the outside who really knows what they are doing to train the staff in how to maintain the facilities. The only thing housekeeping knows how to do is change the sheets and towels, and make a nice design with the bed runner. Legacy..you are in trouble. Invest some money in...

We stayed here for 2 weeks occupying 2 rooms. Wonderful staff! They were always ready to help us with anything we needed. After 1 night, Joel at the front desk was able to give us our connecting rooms which we asked for months in advance. Ignace who made up our rooms was so kind and He made sure we had everything we needed. He periodically checked on us to be sure all was ok! The room was clean, spacious with comfortable beds. The only thing we didn’t care for was the carpet. It really should be replaced. Showers and hot water was great! Unless you are into soccer or CNN, prepare for boring tv. But the wifi was good and we were able to view things on our phones. |Breakfast was always interesting. Many local dishes. 1 or 2 would’ve been good with other dishes we could recognize. But lots of fruit and yogurt with different breads or rolls. We ate dinner there once and it was very good. Most days we went to the restaurant next door called Taste Foods. Very nice hotel close to the airport. Good breakfast along with a nice outdoor pool, sauna, great deep tissue massage and a nice small gym. Everything that you may need while away from home. I stayed here for 5 days and enjoyed it. The staff for the most part is very friendly and attentive. There are a lot of conferences here so it's not just for tourist but you'll see a lot of business activities happening. There are a few other nearby hotels but this did the job. Make sure to not stay facing the street as there's a nightclub that is VERY loud till 3am and if the window is open you'll hear all the chaos. Very safe environment and a lot of bikes to take you to other nearby places. Money exchange is a block away behind the hotel, great Indian restaurant not too far away and the convention center (Radison hotel and great ice cream shop) not too far. Good spot and good rate too.
