My wife and I had dinner at Chez Marston. We chose a table that happened to have four chairs because it was slightly more open with a better breeze. After waiting 10 minutes for a menu, the server sauntered over to our table and asked us to move to another table with only two chairs “in case we get busy.” I looked at the server, then did a quick scan of the restaurant and counted two other occupied tables, each with of two customer and 22 open tables…I kid you not. Baffled, I looked back at the server and my face registered a look of total disbelief ….Huh?!||||We have been in La Digue for a week at this point, and rode our bikes past this very restaurant no less than a dozen times, and NEVER seen more than 3 tables occupied. Most of the time it was completely empty. After the pathetic customer service we received, and after eating our meal, it was painfully clear why this place fails to attract customers. We each order a pasta dish that lacked any real flavor, and both dishes were served with spaghetti noodles (despite mine being a carbonara). Here’s the thing: It’s really not that hard to do a decent carbonara or a beef bolognese. It’s really not! If you can’t do that, don’t serve it. Service was slow, uninspired and unfriendly to say the least, yet they are sure to automatically add 10% gratuity to the bill. Note to the wait staff at Chez Marston: Tips are earned, not a right. ||Lastly, we had coffee here a few days earlier with similar pitiful service and were told when we asked for the Wi-Fi password “the Wi-Fi is broken.” Hmmm, that’s odd we thought, but ok. At dinner tonight when we asked if we could have the Wi-Fi password (a fairly reasonable and common question for patrons dining at your restaurant), our server replied after some hesitation, ”it’s not working…I don’t know it.” Wait…What? Is it not working or do you not know the password? She stumbled over her response and settled on her answer of “I don’t know the password. The reception has it.” Ok, fine. I walked up to reception (this restaurant also has accommodations in back), but there was nobody to be found at reception to ask for the Wi-Fi password, and no help from the wait staff who saw me standing at the reception desk for 5 minutes trying to find someone to give me the Wi-Fi password. The pitiful customer service, the mediocre (at best) food, makes Chez Marston just a flat out embarrassment. Save your time and money, avoid the frustration and don’t bother with...
Read moreWe stayed at the Orchid guest house for a week starting the 14th of August for part of our honeymoon. A few days prior to arriving I emailed the guest house to ask about if there was any possibility of getting collected from the ferry terminal as we had quite a bit of luggage. We received no reply. We got a taxi of to the guest house which I would advice avoiding if possible it cost us €9 for a 3 minute drive which if we had known it was so close we would have walked. Once we arrived the accommodation was okay nothing special but there was no water or teas/ coffee left in our apartment. The electricity was not working in any of the appartments so we had no air con or fan on 30 degree heat. We then decided to go for a walk into the town and get some bikes. We first asked at the reception and they told us they could sort this out for €12 a day per person which from being to the island a few times prior to this I know was extremely expensive. We then went into the town and found good bikes for €6 per person per day. I would just like to add a note about if you have been to la digue in the past I would avoid returning as it may ruin your memory's it is now quite buisy, lots of restorants and bars. Even along the beautiful costlier me the seculuded beaches are full of people and there our little bars on them. The most disappointing thing was Ans de Sargent still a beautifull beach but full of people and bar shacks who charge €7.50 for a fruit juice, this is after paying €20 for two people to enter the beach. Anyway back to the accommodation we had no power for most of the first and second day which ment no Aircon. When we went to ask the staff about this they just said it will be turned back on later. We Dident even hage any walm water for shower. If you decided to stay here which I strongly advice against I would recommend not paying the €10 per person for breakfast. We ordered this the first day and you get a bit of melon and pinapple, a crosson and a choice of egg and bacon. The bacon was all fat and no meat the egg was nice but that was about it. I remember being here 5 years ago and breakfast would be a huge fruit platter of all the local fruits. It's a shame to say but we will not be returning back to la digue and defently not this Hotel.||They also had us down for leaving 4 days before we...
Read moreIf you wish to waste 2-3 hours of your life waiting on mediocre and expensive food, you should definitely stop here. The staff is completely uninterested, they don't even greet you coming in and overall act like you are bothering them with your presence. The service is ridiculously slow, we waited 2+ hours for 2 soups, a fish&chips and some fish fillet with garlic sauce. I asked for fries instead of rice, of course I received rice and at that point we were already pushing 2 hours total of waiting so was afraid to complain. The soup itself took about an hour (seriously now, how long does it take to pour some soup into a bowl???). The lentil soup was very bland and watery and no amount of salt or paper could make it better. The fish soup was ok, decent. The fish fillet from the main course was very rubbery and I am pretty sure it wasn't fresh, but frozen beforehand. Overall not tasty. Coming back to the staff, not once did they come over to ask us if everything is ok. Overall, the worst restaurant I have ever tried, I don't understand why this kind of place is even open. So if you value your time and money, go somewhere else, there are a lot of options nearby. Also, don't be tricked by the prices displayed outside on the board, those are applicable for take-away, eating in costs double...
