This is an oasis in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. Prepare to relax and feel as if you are in a hotel that time left behind, a feeling of (if you like) being cast off from society in the peace and quiet of this large house (or small hotel) until you leave through the gates. Even the neighbourhood has a serenity and friendliness, tranquillity and peace.||||I cannot overstate what a contrast this is to the hustle, bustle and frenetic city centre of Johannesburg only a few miles to the south. Foxwood House is situated in a leafy area of the city, with a shopping mall only minutes walk away, where you can eat or buy all manner of goods. The area is very safe and every day we walked the mile or two to Rosebank and the northern stop of the Hop On, Hop Off Bus. Every morning and afternoon we were greeted by the gardeners and security guards that worked in the neighbourhood along our journey.||||Foxwood house and our room were just splendid. We stayed in the Pearl Oats Suite, which had a lovely, large balcony where we sat every afternoon. The room had a fridge, a cable television, a good size wardrobe, good wifi and tea & coffee making facilities. The bathroom was large and the water always hot.||||The breakfast was cooked to order, tasty and plentiful. The staff were so very friendly and the grounds and house like something from a fairytale. Old, quaint, interesting, meandering, peaceful, beautiful, cool, picturesque and relaxing are words that come to mind.||||We were alone when we wanted to be and the staff or owners were there when we needed them. When we left for the airport after spending four nights, we wondered if it would be possible to find anywhere like Foxwood House again. I doubt it. Try it and be prepared to let the place...
Read more[ Part 1 ] Foxwood House messed up and forgot we were arriving for a high tea on Sunday afternoon. When we rocked up, there was no one was there. Contacted the manager Lucy and she said she would phone down to let us in. We then sat at the gate and had to phone again before she said that there was no one there and blamed it on the kitchen and other staff. So essentially we were lied to. Asking for a full refund on Monday morning and received excuse after excuse. Phoning her and e-mails ignored, it and took several days (of which I had to constantly follow up). Never would I recommend this place as the service and communication is utterly shocking.
[ Part 2 ] Hi Foxwood, As I cannot reply to your actual comment, I will respond here. I cancelled due to a family emergency on Sunday, phoned and you said moving it the following week will be no problem (I have e-mail correspondents to prove). When we arrived the following week Sunday, you and your team were nowhere to be found. So, how can I not be entitled to a refund when you said that moving to the following Sunday was no problem? If you could not reschedule, I would have understood. The following Monday that we were let down, I had to follow up with you for a refund. Tuesday I must have called at least 10 times (have records of that) with no answer or responses. E-mails also left unanswered. Wednesday is when you responded and said you would pay me back. I asked for proof of payment and no response. Please do not drag me through the mud when you are...
Read moreThese people have zero integrity or moral standards. I made a booking on short notice on behalf of a friend who residues outside of South Africa. The booking was for a month’s period and they had a room available on short notice. We paid the deposit in full after negotiating a special rate.
Unfortunately after 2 days since the stay commenced we had to cancel the booking due to unforeseen and medical circumstances. We were completely ok with paying a penalty but the manager and his staff were rude and outrageous.
First of all the person on the phone kept on talking over me and attacking me on the phone when I tried to explain to him what the issue was and then he put the phone down in my ear. I have tried to communicate to the manager and he is also not very helpful- still hasn’t even phoned me just sends me threatening emails.
Basically they decided that they would push the rate back up to full price upon cancellation and take 50% on that amount. In other words it’s a 75% cancellation fee on a month’s tariff.
They clearly have zero integrity and morals. No sense of humanity they are just greedy people who refuse to be reasonable.
I do not recommend them. There are much nicer places to stay in Houghton where people are actually nice and understanding of situations like this. But be aware- if you cancel your booking here you will be shunned and treated like a feral animal.
Completely unprofessional behavior. Disgusting how they...
