So I have a love hate relationship with Killarney Mall. Convenient - yes, depressing - yes, shocking management but at the same time, I keep going back.
Few moments to reflect on.
Killarney Mall has seen the worst of this country. A police officer shot his girlfriend in the shoe shop next to the crazy store. The saddest part of that story, is that its probably the only day someone has ever entered that shop.
Wessels used to work at the Matrix. He is a lovely man and really knew his IT. He always had a smile on his face but when asked about the mall, his smile became a frown. He found the management poor and it drove him to leave the computer business altogether. I don't know what Wessels does now, but I miss my IT department.
Hidden in the parking, squeezed between the post boxes and the movie posters, as if ashamed to be seen by the world, is a library. Back in the 90's, the Killarney library was a prominent structure in the mall. You couldn't miss it. Today, its hard to find. Why would anyone want to hide a library?
Speaking of the post office. There has never been a day where the credit card machine actually works. If you dont have cash, they will not help you at the Killarney Mall Post Office.
I end this note with personal story that still burns me till this day. Sunday is free parking at Killarney, but that Sunday was different as it fell on a public holiday. Unbeknownst to me, I went around my business and made my way to validate my ticket. To my surprise, the machine stated I had to pay for the ticket. When I checked with security, he told me because it's a public holiday, this trumps the Sunday pass and I would have to pay the flat rate. What kind of person charges for public holiday - Sunday parking? This is the problem with humanity.
Look, the one positive is that you will always bump into someone you know. It's just one of those places. Ladies beware, if your boyfriend is taking you to Killarney Mall on a Saturday night, you not his first choice.
I hope this review helps. See you...

The inside of the mall was safe and it had been our second time visiting the mall that week. We found great shopping deals and truly had a lovely time at Simply Asia. I was happy and I took photos and videos for to share but while we were waiting outside for the Bolt driver to arrive, I was targeted by an uber driver and a phone thief!
I had NO IDEA they were driving by watching me as I was trying to contact the driver to find out where he was. The thief go out of the car and walked past me as if he was going inside the mall. Naturally, I paid no attention to it. Next thing I know, he comes up from behind me, snatches my phone from out of my hands, and runs and jumps into the uber driver’s car that was waiting for him!!!
I’m 6 months pregnant and couldn’t run behind the car but my husband did and some of the local people threw rocks at the vehicle to get the to stop.
It doesn’t end there.
As I’m going crazy, yet trying to remain calm (because my babies’ health is a priority and I don’t want them to come early), this patrol car comes up as if he is trying to help and offers to help us chase them down.
He completely ignores the areas that we tell him and takes us out too far. I told him that I didn’t feel safe with him because he wasn’t listening and to take us back to the mall.
It turns out, he was working with them to help them get further away from us because we were actually close to catching them from where we were at the mall.
So this is why I haven’t posted an updated reviews in 3.5 weeks and why I trust NO PLACE in this city…and this is my second time here!
I was in Joburg in 2020 as a solo female traveler and by the grace of God, nothing happened to me. I only had positive experiences.
But this mall??? HOW DO YIU NOT HAVE SECURITY HERE???
I gave 2 stars for the experience prior to everything just described. This was a very traumatic incident for me. Killarney...
Read moreThis place is absolutely amazing! Went there with an intention to buy a few stuff but i ended up buying a whole of stuff. The shops in there are greatly priced and the parking is greatly spaced! It also accomodates disabled people which i think is a very good gesture. There is tight security as well so you dont have to worry about your car being stolen. All the shops you might be looking for are under one roof! The food courts are situated under one area so you just choose where you want to eat out!The security guards are also freindly and helpful with moving trolleys and helping you park the car. The guards are usually very smart in their uniforms and welcoming.I once lost my car and they were able to assist me find it. There is lots and lots of floors there so next time you go there make sure you know where you are parked so you dont end up lost. However since its a busy mall the parking floors are able to cater for everyone. Theres another floor which has all the doctors and services you wouldnt find in any mall. Its a one stop shop mall as some would say and its definately my favourite...
