Del Forno Killarney Mall — Restaurant in Gauteng

21st Feb 2021. Walked into the restuarant and loved the ambiance, cleanliness and decor. Killarney mall was quiet but the restuarant had patrons in and out so I new the food would be fresh. Service from management and waiting staff was excellent BUT the food leaves alot to be desired and the service time was not acceptable. We waited way too long for food to come out. Starters - chocolate shake sent back for an expired syrup taste resembling plastic. 2 strawberry shakes the same but kids decided not to complain mommy would be embarressing so they just left it on the table and ordered passion fruits instead.Chillie cheese pockets filling was average and bland while pastry was very dry and dense very average ,same with the spinach and cheese but I assumed it was meant to be that way. Hot wings starter- source tasted like chicken liver source and had 2 chips in the bottom of the dish, did they give us someone else's leftovers 🤔 Trinchado steak was tuff same source as the hot wings. Ordered a T-bone steak= out of stock Changed order to ribeye steak done medium . Came super well done. So dry .Mentioned it to the waiter when he checked on us but we had waited nearly an hr so ate it. Manager offered some source and apologized for the bad experience. URGENT!!!!! I was cheated and lied to!!!! The food was amazing. Service was good. But here’s what happened with my first experience there. I came from Durban to try Del Forno. And really enjoyed the place. However when the bill came. The waiter in charge, Nkosi, changed my bill R624 to R824, changing it with a pen. As soon as we started manually calculating the bill, it amounted to R624, the waiter noticed and ran to our table, snatched the bill, yelling, “It’s the other table’s bill” Which is a pathetic excuse considering the order on the slip was ours.

When we asked for the slip back. He said he lost it. The manager definitely seemed in on it. He went to replace the slip and both still argued that it was a “misunderstanding”.

Date Night and 2nd time where I thoroughly enjoyed the service. I found it difficult to choose from a wide array of menu options. We started with the grilled cheesy prawns. It was delicious. My husband couldn't slow down his enjoyment although commenting cheese on prawns is not his thing. Mine either, but it was delicious. I also had a Caesar salad. Beautiful presentation and lots of flesh veggies with succulent grilled chicken to enjoy. That was starters! We enjoyed a Salvatore pizza topped with fresh rocket, olives,pepperoni and feta: A pasta dish: creamy sauce over fettuccine with beef and fresh mushrooms. We had moctails and dessert that was ample and very enjoyable. We Brought home 1/4 of our meal as the portions were of good size and another pizza for our son who also enjoyed his meal.
