Menlyn Apartments — Hotel in Gauteng

This place is FILTHY. We reported the filth to management but were told the cleaning team will only be available on Monday (we checked in on Saturday). The blankets are torn and brown with filth and smell. The walls are covered in mould in the bedroom and bathroom. The photos advertised are deceptive. There is no bedside lamp or decor. We requested an extra fan and we were given a fan without a cover with the blades exposed (my son is 18months old). Stay away. Unless you’re desperate and there’s a storm and it’s 7pm and you have no where else to go. After complaining to management and notified them that we were looking for alternative accommodation they tried to evict us and gave us 15 minutes to leave because “another guest was arriving and if we didn’t leave we could share the apartment with the other guest”. This is after I told them my 18month old and 3 month old babies are already sleeping amidst a storm after 7pm. Inhumane treatment received from management. Guests are also permitted to smoke right outside the rooms (which are all adjoined) so that everyone can inhale the cigarette smoke.

*Edit after Menlyn Apartments reply to my review: What an absolute lie. No one provided any alternative accommodation whatsoever. No one provided clean blankets after we complained about the tattered filthy ones provided and a broken fan without a cover (so my son could lose a finger) does not count as meeting my needs. Your reply lacks...

A depressing spartan room. Not an apartment but rather just a room with a shower, toilet and small kitchenette. Not what we expected according to photos. We booked a room with garden view however the main view was the parking lot. Not nice. The garden view could be seen through the entrance door. Web photos have a tendency to mislead if not done professionally. The pool was a muddy greenish mess.

Insects in room. Experienced insect bites in bed. Horrible!!!!

Poor WiFi. Low signal with flaky connection and very slow. 0.6 to 1.2mbps max.

The room only had a clothes rack for clothing. No air conditioning but a fan.

The other facilities such as kitchenette, shower and OpenView satellite TV were only just acceptable and everything appeared to be clean except the only chair which is dirty.

The setting is great. Rooms are well appointed and clean. Wifi and a swimming pool available. Only problem I had was making any contact with the place beforehand. I telephoned all the numbers supplied and sms'd them (during office hours) to let them know that I am on a late flight and will only reach the guesthouse after 9:30pm. No reply and no response. When I arrived at 9:30 the gate was closed and the intercom was not workung. I phoned all the numbers only to be told that the office is closed until tomorrow. Now get this... if I had an emergency I could tel. the emergency numbers as displayed inside the rooms! No contact details on the gate. I was busy on Google maps to find a hotel nearby when the supervisor happened to spot me at the gate and let me in. By then it was after 10pm already. Other than that, my stay was...
