We had a terrible experience at Oaktree. ||Started with no one there to open on arrival. ||Tried four different numbers to get assistance, eventually after 45 minutes the caretaker opened and let us in around 23h35. We expressed our relief and thanked him. ||Morning after arrival, a woman arrived and by her demeanor, assumed (correctly) she was the owner / manager. She did not greet or introduce herself. I approached her and complemented the immediate garden around us. She immediately told us our booking was canceled before we arrived, so how come we arrived? She was rude and obnoxious. ||We had 6 emails from Booking.com, ALL confirmations and receipt of full payment. NO cancelation emails or messages received on any platform, and NO refund of our fees paid were in our account, and none to date. In our view, our booking stood. ||Showed this to the owner and she denied it.||She was abusive and told us she took another booking for all rooms and they were paying premium. As she is still renovating another room, needed the one we were booked in. ||When we got angry and tried to contest that we had absolutely NO notice of cancellation, she accused us of being racist. NO mention of race, colour or creed had been made whatsoever!!! ||The accusation of racism without basis is as serious an offence as racism itself! ||She did not know us and if she did, would know we are a mixed race family. ||We threatened to take the matter legal and she backed off. ||Her vehicle was parked next to our rental car and when opening her car door, she opened it hard onto ours. It made a ding and chipped the paint on our rental. I watched this happen. ||We took photo's of the damage, and the resulting paint transfer on her door when she was inside the house. ||On arrival, less than 1/3 toilet roll available for our 4 night stay; and got abuse from the owner for asking the caretaker for another one the next day. Was told they are cheap to buy!||||With regards the actual room:||Un - ventilated room with no windows, not good in very high temperatures with no breeze at all. No air conditioning at all. Only available opener was the door and a small window in the bathroom. No air circulating at all and due to high temperatures, we had to sleep with the door open to allow for fresh air. There is a security gate. Tons of mosquitos are problematic. ||The shower cubicle doors do not align so don't close to the bottom. ||Marketed as self catering, but no cooking facilities or washing up facilities. Dishes get done in the hand basin right next to the toilet.||Grubby, old, very small fridge, kettle, very small microwave and a toaster the only appliances available. ||Less than 1/3 toilet roll available for our 4 night stay. ||Some towels stained & torn, pillows also stained. ||1/2 a very grubby hospitality shampoo the only soap available.||Pool area unsafe (plastic, open pool fence) and the pool unkempt & in disrepair. Weeds in the paving & dead vegetation around. Stink of something dead.||Was told when arriving and departing via the electric gate, opened with a remote on our key, the sensor is broken, so if one is delayed over the threshold, the gate will not stop automatically and will hit anything in the way. ||||As we had booked for a family wedding and reunion, we needed a place close to the venue to sleep. We booked the first reasonable looking establishment in a close and convenient location that we found. It was a bonus that the booking was discounted. We booked and paid in full 2 weeks ahead of arrival, and received various confirmations from Booking.com.||||If we were treated with respect and courtesy by the owner, we would have overlooked the less than acceptable conditions, but to be verbally abused and accused of racism by an obnoxious woman who had not had the courtesy to introduce herself is not acceptable.||Guesthouse Oaktree is listed as 4 star on Booking.com? Not 1 star...
Read moreI paid for a Black Friday special R49, and was charged R790 on my bill, for so called cleaning services. The bedding was dirty when we got there, no cleaning had been done, there were coffee amenities advertised, which was a lie, Netflix services was also advertised, this was also a lie. The intercom at the gate does not work, when you call the owner to assist with the opening of the gate, when she answered, she was in a veey loud area, could not hear what I was trying to communicate, and I actually had to ask her to move away from the speaker, so I can communicate with her. She then promised she'd send someone to open the gate. We waited a full 10 minutes and called again. This time she answered and whispered she just sent someone.... I then asked her why she waited 10 minutes begore sending someone, and she tried telling me it wasn't 10 minutes, but someone was on their way (I showed the manager the calls as well).
While we were lying on bed, with nothing to do, another couple came in who booked a room, and when they arrived after a long day's drive, they were told no rooms were available. The manager had to assist them in finding another place to overnight, because of this issue too.
There is so much potential if the owner actually does what is promised on her adverts, and makes sure that cleanliness...
Read moreI booked a room at the Guesthouse for my colleague. There was no receptionist there when he arrived. The room was dirty and grubby. I had paid for his breakfast, which was a huge amount, but sadly the breakfast was not good at all. I called the owner, she promised a refund for the breakfast and a complimentary stay but later the lady that manages the guesthouse called to say that there would not be a refund, only a complimentary stay. ....no thank you. I guess I should have known that that there would be problems when they were unable to send me an invoice via email....they only work on Whatsapp. Getting to speak to the owner was a mission as well. Sorry NO STARS for...
