We found D'oreale Grande Hotel to offer a luxurious and convenient escape, whether you're celebrating a special occasion like we did, or are en route through O.R. Tambo International Airport, or simply looking for a central base to explore Johannesburg. The hotel serves as an ideal venue for business meetings and prestigious conferences, and it stands as a premier entertainment hub with live performances and high-profile events, including boxing. Emperors Palace, as a whole, is renowned as one of Africa's top casino and entertainment complexes.
For added convenience, the hotel provides a complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport, operating every 30 minutes. The quick 6-to-10-minute ride ensures you're comfortably on your way in no time.
With a significant refurbishment, the hotel's interiors have been updated to combine modern elegance with a warm, inviting atmosphere.
After a fast efficient check in, we had the pleasure of staying in one of the newly renovated rooms on the third floor. The design was striking, with bold colours and a well-appointed layout that made the room feel both sophisticated and cozy. The large bed was incredibly comfortable, topped with crisp white linen, and the oversized chairs created a perfect spot to unwind after a busy day. Additionally, the in-room pod coffee maker added a lovely touch, offering a great way to enjoy a cup of coffee at your leisure.
The revamped bathrooms exude luxury, with spacious walk-in showers, elegant fixtures, and ample lighting, all contributing to an elevated experience. High-quality toiletries and plush towels further enhanced the sense of comfort and refinement.
A highlight of our stay was breakfast at Reign, the hotel’s main restaurant. Be sure to arrive with time to savour the extensive Continental buffet as well as a selection from the plated breakfast menu. The plated options reflect the South African love for meat, but there are plenty of choices for vegetarians as well, including omelettes, Eggs Benedict, and their signature baked eggs. We also indulged in oysters paired with a refreshing Sunrise Spritzer mocktail, which set the tone for a memorable start to the day.
Reign also doubles as a vibrant bar and casual eatery, offering contemporary twists on classic dishes crafted by the talented Chef Justine Joseph. With an enticing menu that promises to keep you coming back for more, the dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. On weekends, the atmosphere comes alive with DJ TremHer's dynamic tunes, creating the perfect backdrop for a night of fine dining and entertainment. The restaurant's modern, stylish interior, complete with cozy corners and open spaces, provides an ideal setting for a lively yet relaxed evening out. The food, the drinks, and the ambiance at Reign truly deserve their own spotlight—and will be done as a separate review based on the amazing dinner and dance experience we had and we can’t wait to return.
The hotel is located slightly away from the central entertainment area and bustling casino complex yet close enough - it’s just a 3-minute walk through an opulent passage adorned with Italian artwork and plush carpeting, offering a sense of tranquillity.
Emperors Palace itself boasts a range of diverse dining options, representing South Africa’s multicultural cuisine, from Greek and Italian to Portuguese, Indian, and Asian fare.
And if you're looking for some downtime, the hotel offers a 24-hour gym, as well as the Octavia’s Sensorium Spa. As it was fully booked during our stay, it’s yet another reason we’re eager to come back and enjoy the full experience.
As we checked out, we were met with warm smiles and left with a renewed sense of relaxation. Our stay at the Peermont D'oreale Grande Hotel left us feeling rejuvenated, and we’re already looking forward to returning to this 'palace of dreams' for another...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Peermont D’oreale Grande Hotel while attending a Harcourts conference and, unfortunately, the experience did not meet the standard I’ve come to expect from a 5-star property. I regularly stay at hotels such as The Oyster Box, The Marine in Hermanus, and Birkenhead House, so my expectations are aligned with a certain level of service and quality.
The breakfast service was particularly disappointing. It took around 15 minutes for my coffee to arrive, and when it finally did, it was the wrong order. The sausage I requested with breakfast was initially forgotten, and when it did arrive, it was undercooked. The overall breakfast experience felt disorganised and slow, which is not what one expects at a luxury establishment.
Another frustration was being asked to pay an additional R400 to use the sauna and steam room — amenities that are typically complimentary at other 5-star hotels. This felt unreasonable and not in line with the luxury experience that was advertised.
Room service was also underwhelming. We ordered French fries as a light snack and had to send them back as they were soggy and inedible. French fries should be crispy, and this basic expectation was not met.
Furthermore, during the conference, the wine selection was noticeably below par. On the second night, the pricing on the bottles of wine was changed by staff, which was not only unprofessional but also unacceptable in a conference setting.
All in all, while the hotel does have potential and offers convenient access to the airport, I would not choose to stay here again. The overall service and attention to detail simply did not reflect the 5-star standard...
Read morePeermont D’Oreale Grande Hotel. Grande it certainly was, being part of the Emperor’s Palace complex near to Johannesburg airport, comprising three hotels, casino, conference centre, shopping mall and food mall and other facilities that we were not party to. |We arrived many hours before we’d anticipated, but we were able to go to our room which was perfectly acceptable. |Our light lunch however was something of a lottery, as some items that we’d ordered duly arrived, but some did not, while items that we specifically had not ordered were brought to our table. After lunch we decided to relax for a few hours by the pool, only to be confronted by a situation that as far as I was concerned was unprecedented. There were as many ducks as sun beds around the pool, but no duck restrooms were provided so the area around pool was liberally populated with duck ‘poops’, which made the area less than pleasant to say the least - other descriptions are available. We had to request that the area was cleaned and a less than thorough exercise was eventually conducted, but by time it was completed the ducks had returned and rendered the exercise more or less futile.|After an hour or so by the pool and watching the dismal attempt to make the area poop-free we returned to our room, prior to venturing forth for pizza in the Italian Kitchen, not wishing to repeat our lunch experience in the hotel restaurant. |The hotel is part of an enormous complex and very conveniently located for Johannesburg airport, but for us it will be remembered...
