We regret spending two nights of our honeymoon at The Plettenberg Hotel. We have had the privilege of staying at The Twelve Apostles in Cape Town and at The View Hotel in Wilderness where both these hotels made our stay unforgettable These two hotels went over and above.
The Plettenberg Hotel did not make any effort to make our honeymoon stay special in anyway possible. It was boring and cramped. What we really dislike about the hotel is the size of the rooms. They are very small for the price you pay. The bathrooms are as simple as they get, not what you pay for at supposedly at 5 star hotel. We were woken up on both mornings by the noise of either staff or guests speaking in the hallway at 07:00. Amongst others complications we experienced I really would not recommend The Plettenberg Hotel if you want value for your money. We should’ve Stayed at Tsala Tree Top Lodge which looked equisite and is only 10min drive. We dined with Tsala on our final evening and in conversation with the host we mentioned we are in Plett for our honeymoon. We were treated to two glasses of bubbly rosé on the house and canapés compliments of the chef. What an experience without even staying in their premises. It was one of the most beautiful places we had seen. The food was superb and the service was outstanding.
Conclusion. The Plettenberg Hotel is certainly not value for money and is well below any other 5 star hotel we have stayed at. I suggest staying at Tsala and paying a little more to get a...
Read moreFirst let me say a 5 star rating to me means truly "Tops". Thus a four star rating. We loved the very good considerate hotel staff. Helpful to say the least. Nice very clean spacious rooms. Excellent beds. Excellent views from some rooms and certainly from the lounge area etc. The location is very close to the beach which is reached easily. The same can be said for the older main street. A lovely quiet neighborhood. So why not 5 stars? The restaurant at least for me had some issues. I went there for dinner by myself and it was empty. They wanted to place me right next to the reception where they were standing and chatting. I took a different table. During my dinner there were never more than five other guests. So much for placing me in the entry way. The steak was fine, but exceptionally small, the fried potatoes were minuscule along with one lonely miniature sliced carrot. From that I should have known not to order a cherry dessert! It consisted of three Maraschino cherries, some chocolate and a bit of a base to put it on. It had a delightful taste, but you would think the miniature sliced carrot would have taught me something. Apparently not. In a nut shell, I think the restaurant served good food, but food is meant to be enjoyed as opposed to us enjoying its layout only. In conclusion a fine hotel, fine enough for me to order orchids for the receptionist, but the restaurant needs better service and a review...
Read moreWonderful hotel with absolutely gorgeous rooms and magnificent views across Plettenburg bay. We had a mini suite with an enormous bedroom a huge and comfortable separate sitting room with an espresso machine and a complimentary bottle of wine. Plus our own garden area with chairs and a table and our own terrace with sunbeds and a view. A total treat to stay here. We were recommended it by some friends who lived in South Africa for a couple of years. The dining room looks out over the bay and there is a bell for guests to ring if they spot a whale so others can come and look. The bar is lovely with an excellent range of drinks and cocktails all mixed by very proficient and friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We were asked over breakfast ( which would have been served in our garden should we have wanted it) about our plans. We said we had booked whale watching but had been told that our trip may be later because of the previous days storm. We continued with our breakfast and the lady we had spoken to came back to tell us our trip would be at 10.30 as she had rung the company to check for us. Cannot praise the Plettenburg enough I just wish we had...
