This is a bit of a tough one to review.....the place is well maintained with a park-like setup on the grounds, with a bridged koi pond and a menagerie of birds.... and most likely an ideal place to stay and unwind... However, we booked it as our accommodation for the Comrades Marathon....and unfortunately, a good night's rest was the last thing that we got...so much so, that we had to ask reception to please have a word...as it was already around 12a.m🙄🤦 We addressed the matter with the Proprietor the following day and was advised that this lodge was a favourite haunt for a particular group of runners for the past 7 years....along with their rowdy support group, who after staying their for the past 7 years acted like they had the run of the place, moving loudly and conversating between the various rooms until all hours. So, while management was friendly, they made provisions for a 3am breakfast, room was tidied up upon our return...please consider wisely wrt time of year to make a booking. We foolishly applied our proper runners etiquette....which we do whenever sleeping out for a run... by being silent after a certain time to allow fellow runners an opportunity to find that elusive sleep...or if nothing else, to have a relaxed night. Unfortunately, due to the leeway allowed by the lodge to this group over the years, Laletsa lodge will sadly be remembered for the...
Read moreWe stayed for two nights at the Laletsa Lodge B&B in the Berea section of Durban while on a business trip during the Durban July race weekend. My room was comfortable, in a basic African motif. The bed was clean and comfortable, and property was relatively well kept. Basic television service was provided. The breakfast buffet was average, with eggs cooked to order as well as cereals, yoghurts, fruit, breakfast meats etc. ||||The property is composed of 4 building connected by stone walkways and steps, with several pools. The only fully accessible rooms were in the reception building, and even then, one would have to navigate 5-6 stone steps to get to the breakfast room. ||||The desk staff was helpful in arranging dinner reservations and a cab to the Ushaka Marine world. The lodge parking was rather tight due to their location on a very steep hill, and the security gates needed to be opened for admittance.||||The Lodge was fully booked because of it being the Durban July race weekend, which made our experience less than great. There were many university students staying there who were heavily into partying. This made it very noisy in most of the property. The staff did not seem to take any responsibility for encouraging consideration of...
Read moreMy stay with few of my friends at Laletsa Lodge was fantastic during January 2019.
Pros Clean room, bathroom, and kitchen area if you have a suite. All you can eat breakfast from 7 a.m. in the morning, to top it off it was halal as well. Uninterrupted WIFI service. Layout of the courtyard has wooden swing and little animal sanctuary. Housekeeping was always accommodating to our room service timing request. Lodge is centrally located to promenade, restaurants, and cricket stadium. Free secured parking.
Cons Frogs are very loud at night as if their vocal cord have busted. To get a clean towel, we always had to justify our old towel was dirty to housekeeping. Swimming pool was not clean/ready for us to enjoy.
Dean at the reception helped us with: Great suggestions to buy local coffee beans. SPA facilities that were around the area and safe for women. Iron and iron board on request. Helped us make local calls from reception area for inquiry purposes. Our extra toilet roll requests
Other services they offered: Microwave at the Reception kitchen. Laundry service on site...
