Unity Bar & Brasserie — Restaurant in Musgrave

On a personal level, there is nothing worse than sitting in a restaurant, with a group of friends for dinner and everyone else’s food arrives and you are left looking at the bare table in front of you, half of your fellow diners nibble surreptitiously at their food and the others sit stoically staring at their plates, watching their food get cold.

After 5 minutes they start asking you “where is your food, did you order?”. Your server avoids the general area of your table and after another 5 mins he rushes past, with someone else’s order not stopping, and merely says “it’s on it’s way”. Your fellow diners have now eaten more than half of their food. You are angry and have lost your appetite so try to cancel your order, which now about 15 mins late, with another staff member who’s standing near the kitchen door, only to get told it is plated and on its way.

I understand that with a huge table of 7 people these mistakes can happen, however when they do, I expect considerably better communication from the staff and a real sense apology. Sadly both of these...

I liked that it wasn't too big. You didn't feel like just another patron. The staff and managers were super friendly and courteous. The lavatories and dining areas are clean and neat. Conversation will have to compete with music that's just a tad loud on certain evenings but this adds to the ambience. It's not Oupas bar and grill.

The menus are unique, wooden boards which is pretty cool. Great selection of local and international craft beers and ciders. All are good. Food menu is simple and perfect. The Unity Vegetarian Burger was one of the best I've had. It doesn't come with sides but the burger is hefty enough to hit the spot especially since you're going to accompany it with a beer. My companions all enjoyed there generous portions as well. Although it was busy, our order took around 15-20 minutes to get to us.

I managed to pick up a few pages from their menu online but I'd suggest you go to their website just in case prices have changed. All in all, 10/10 would visit again.

Vegan food isn't good. Disappointed...

I HAVE CALLED A WEEK AGO , TO CHECK IF THIS BAR WAS OPENED FOR MOTHERS DAY. I WAS TOLD YES IT WILL BE AND I MADE A BOOKING FOR 15 PEOPLE. THE GUY TOLD ME HE WILL EMAIL ME IF I WANTED ANY EXTRAS ON THE TABLE. ONLY TO GET THERE ON SUNDAY AND FIND THE PLACE CLOSED. I WAS VERY ANGRY & UPSET, COS MY MUM IS 80 YEARS OLD IN A WHEELCHAIR, AND WE TOOK HER FOR LUNCH, IN THAT MISERABLE WEATHER. WE COULD NOT FIND ANY BOOKINGS CLOSE BY, ALL PLACES WERE FULLY BOOKED.

WE ENDED UP GOING TO DURBAN NORTH @ RJ'S . THE LATE BOOKING WAS EXCEPTED & WE HAD EXCELLENT SERVICE.

I WILL NEVER CONTACT YOUR BAR EVER AGAIN OR RECOMMEND IT TO ANY ONE.

DISGUSTING COMMUNICATION ON YOUR SIDE. A SIMPLE EMAIL OR PHONE CALL WOULD HAVE BEEN APPRECIATED.
