Pastel Guest house bed and breakfast self catering — Hotel in Musgrave

I had the good pleasure of being one of the first guests at Pastel Guest House. I stayed with 11 other conference delegates and we could not have been more pleased with our decision to stay at Pastel. The rooms are large and comfortable with an extraordinarily comfortable mattress. The Guest House feels like a home away from home - well decorated, welcoming, clean, safe. Most importantly, Dennis and his family were incredibly hospitable and determined to give us the best possible experience in Durban. The neighborhood is safe and within walking distance of the Botanical Garden (definitely take a walk down to it) and only a short drive from all of the attractions of downtown Durban. The only even slightly negative thing I can remember is that the shower drain was poorly designed so the whole bathroom can get a little wet, but I'm really only saying this to prove that I'm not getting paid to write this glowing review! Just stayed in the house for 6 weeks while doing an internship in Durban. We have enjoyed our stay very much. The rooms are clean and well kept, the beds are very comfortable. The rooms are cleaned everyday and laundry service is available. There is an old kitchen, where we cocked many nights, it works just fine. There is a lovely patio, where we have sit many afternoons and evenings, enjoying the good weather and the view over Durban. Dennis is a lovely host, communicating with him has been easy, and he is very helpful advising about the area and things to do in Durban. This is a revised review after contact by the owner - I continue to feel that the accommodation is not as advertised because the furniture is old and falling apart. You need to be aware that entrance to the property is via quite a number of steps. However, the bed was very comfortable and the place clean. Unfortunately, we had been advised by the tour operator that we were booked in for B&B and that the kitchen would be fully stocked, which it wasn't. We did not feel that the location was particularly safe and, indeed, when the person who showed us to our rooms was aware that we would be walking anywhere, he confirmed this and offered to go with us.
