Our stay was great until we had to check out and deal with the general manager Martin. So like any hotel their was shower gel, shampoo etc in the room. Once they were finished I threw the empty bottles away. Apparently at New Kings this is a crime.on our last day one of the reception staff even came into the restaurant and hovered over us three times to ask us where the empty bottles were. We decided to rather leave the breakfast table and speak to Martine. Wow, now here is someone who shouldn't be in any customer services role. The belittling tone and manner we subjected to was shocking and the insinuation that we took the shower gel etc from the room. I felt like I was in a disciplinary hearing. I even explained that I had no need to take anything from the room as I had come with my own stuff from home. I couldn't belive the audacity to point in my face with her finger after which I banged my hand on the table. Martine is aggressive and can't take her own medicine. I think she's so used to bullying people that it shocks her when someone stands up for themselves. We had to sit in her office for ages listening to how she brought up the ratings of the hotel etc. She even told us about how messy other guests rooms are and that the lady cleaning our room is on a third warning. I had no issues with the lady cleaning our room but it seemed like she was trying to get us to say anything to use as ammunition against this person. I can't believe the unprofessional behaviour. What a horrible check in, reservation department through their manager (Bradley) were so unprofessional,I’m not sure when the hotel started operating but……at check in they did not have my booking that was confirmed on the 23rd of December while my check in was on the 31st.
They only saw it on arrival which was too late as the hotel was fully booked. What I failed to understand was the reservation manager who denied that we are booked with them, I called the host as per Airbnb and it went straight to front of house which he blamed Airbnb that they can sometimes do that even though they are not the hosts, this man was so clueless of how to handle the issue at hand. And the fact that he is the manager and he still has to allocate bookings says a lot, unless the hotel doesn’t have reservationists, but I guess he is one of those micro managing employees.
Bradley continued to blame Airbnb and the email have to have gone to their old email address, which so unprofessional, why would you tell the guest of email going to an old email, I mean that is not my problem, to check email and update the system. This manager went to lengths to just not account for his incompetence.
I am sure the experience would have been way different if front of house manager handled the situation. And I can not blame the receptionist at that time as she did he part...
Read moreI stayed at the New Kings Sea Point 20-23 Feb 2022 and had an excellent experience from start to finish. Every member of the staff was professional and friendly. Bradley, Mario, Lyden, Justin, Tia and Martine all went out of their way to make sure my stay was comfortable. I stayed in a deluxe room on the fifth floor (511?) which was spacious and well decorated with high ceilings and a large window with a city view across Solomons Road toward Bantry Bay. The room was spotless when I checked in and the housekeeping staff kept it that way. Wifi was fast and reliable. I had a couple of good meals at Zest restaurant. Many seats offer an ocean view. Security is good as the hotel lobby is on the second level. Hotel location is outstanding with an array of dining options nearby as well as several well-stocked groceries in the area including two in the same building as the hotel. The beach promenade is a short walk (400 m) and Saunders Rocks Beach is about 800 m walking from the hotel. I stay in a lot of hotels for work and leisure. New Kings is a cut above.
