I was utterly disappointed by the service we received. We placed our first order at approximately 19:30. The waiter informed us that there were only one portion of empanadas available, which I found quite surprising as it was very early in the evening and given that it is a Mexican restaurant one expects it to have more than one portion of a specific dish available.
We only received 3 out of the 5 first orders (between 20:00/20:15), also important to note that none of these orders came at the same time. When asking our waiter about the status of our orders she kept stating that she told us the kitchen would take long. Which to make clear, she never did.
At around 20:00 we thought it would be best to order a second round of food, as we could see the wait was longer than expected. Not a single dish from this second order ever materialised and yet again there was no mention that this would take a long time to arrive at the point of ordering.
At 20:30 we again approached our waiter to enquire about the 2 dishes from our first order. She again rudely made it clear that she informed us there would be a wait for food. We gave you the benefit of the doubt, but at 20:45 we thought enough is enough and had to cancel our orders in its entirety.
I appreciate that restaurants can get busy and that the kitchen might be under pressure in getting orders out. However, what I don’t appreciate is the waiter not informing us at any point of the aforesaid and talking to us as if we’re in the wrong for asking about the status of our orders.
To add to this, our waiter couldn’t be bothered to even deliver our cheque after having to ask her twice for it. The man that finally did bring our bill was extremely polite and amended the bill to reflect what we actually received. He even offered us a round of shots after we paid as a gesture of goodwill, which was very nice but too little too late.
To be at a restaurant for almost 2hrs and only receive 3/9 of the food items ordered just isn’t good enough. The experience was extremely underwhelming, worsen further by awful service from the female waiter we had whom unfortunately we never...

As aficionados of Mexican cuisine and, in particular, tacos, we were immediately drawn to this establishment. The palpable buzz emanating from within, with nearly every table occupied, seemed to beckon us, as though the one remaining free table was awaiting our arrival. The restaurant itself is rather diminutive, which makes advance reservations decidedly advisable. The interior is reasonably attractive, with a few tables spilling onto the sidewalk.
The Menu:
The restaurant offers a relatively standard array of Mexican fare, including some appetizers, tazones - a sort of bowl with various fillings - and, of course, tacos. We decided to sample the white fish ceviche and a variety of tacos: fish, prawn, and meat. The ceviche was skillfully balanced, highlighting the requisite acidity, and possessing a subtle hint of herbaceousness. The tacos, served in pairs, were generously filled. The fish taco, while competently executed, lacked a certain sauciness, as the fried fish and the corn tortilla contributed to an overall dryness. The prawn taco proved to be the most enjoyable, largely due to its vibrant vegetables and well-balanced sauce. The prawns were expertly grilled and the portion was ample. We found the meat taco to be the least compelling; while it possessed a rich flavour, it was, unfortunately, rather dry. The meat, though tasty, had a texture more reminiscent of stew than traditional grill fare.
Service:
The service, while generally cordial, was somewhat sluggish, although this is perhaps understandable given the restaurant's full capacity. On the whole, the experience was pleasant and the dishes were delivered in a reasonable time despite the evident busyness of the restaurant.
Conclusion:
This restaurant offers a respectable option for a casual Mexican meal or a quick bite. It's a decidedly boisterous place with a lively atmosphere, generally filled to capacity, so booking ahead is prudent. We enjoyed the energy of the space and, in particular, their cocktails. If you're seeking a Mexican restaurant on Sea Point, this establishment warrants your...
Read moreReally poor service detracted from a tasty meal with lovely ambience. Went for an anniversary celebration but service was bad enough for us not to return or recommend.
We managed to order drinks early from a runner who was helpful. But then had to wait 25 min (sitting with menus closed for most of that time) before having multiple attempts to get a waitress over to actually take our order, interaction was abrupt at best. Single dish starter took 15 min and then our tacos took 20 min after that which wouldn't be bad if it wasn't for the fact of watching tables around sit down order and receive multiple courses in these gaps. Zero interaction from front of house other than to quite rudely ask 'what we were doing' when we walked into the restaurant when arriving due to the fact that he was not at front of house but having social chats away from entrance (we had booked and confirmed)
Then my Significant Other got ignored flat out by waitress while trying to get bill at end and we had to endure an argument between front of house and the waitress while settling our bill which is as close to any interaction we received from them the whole night.
There was a unique skill on display to have good food and ambience ruined by inattentiveness and somewhat rude and neglectful service, to extent where only thing memorable was poor service.....
Edit: credit to the staff for going above and beyond to contact us post our dinner and attempt to understand why we had a poor experience, explain things from their side and attempt to rectify the issue, shows that they do care and do try go the extra mile for customers and...
