We booked our stay at Gran Tacande 6 months prior to our visit directly through their website. This was cheaper than doing a package with any airline and it also gave us some perks which I think are worth mentioning: we had a private taxi van pick us up and drop us off at the airport for free. We were allowed to visit the spa at the hotel whenever we wanted, again for free. I would like to mention that the staff at the spa were lovely and so were the changing rooms (bring a euro if you want to rent a locker), but the spa itself I think needs updating. My boyfriend actually cut his foot on the tiling on the bottom of one of the pools, and I noticed it definitely didn't look as appealing as it does in the pictures on the website. I think while the hotel is focusing on doing upgrades right now, they should spend some money on the spa. This leads me into talking about the main pool. I've seen reviews on here previously about the tiling in the main pool being poor, so while it is good that they have taken the time to fix this, I am very confused as to why they are doing it between May - July (surely lots of people visit during these summer months, why not do it in the winter just gone?). We received an email from the hotel at the end of April letting us know that the main pool would be closed during our stay at the start of June and we were quite upset about this as if we had known we wouldn't have booked here for our anniversary trip. There was noise from the builders in the pool every week day (we arrived on a Monday) which could be heard even when the balcony door was closed. We were in room 455 and I highly recommend this suite. It's on the top floor, and literally down the hallway is the Sunset Bar. The views from the balcony were amazing, and we went in the jacuzzi pretty much every day. The room itself was large and felt modern, and the cleaner did a lovely job and always brought a new large bottle of water for us. The only thing I would note is that the toilet door has a huge gap at the top, and it is also a misty clear door. You get no privacy with this door, so maybe don't book this room if you're not 100% comfortable with the person you're with hearing you go to the toilet. I did actually get in contact with the hotel about being disheartened about the main pool being closed, as we had paid quite a bit of money, and I had asked if there was any chance of a discount. We were first asked to move our trip to when the work was finished, however we had already booked flights 4 months prior and we were staying during our anniversary so changing the dates would defeat the purpose of the trip. A few days later, I received another email saying they upgraded us for free to half board instead of just breakfast. We were extremely grateful and happy about this and thanked the person we had heard back from over email, however we ended up not being the biggest fans of the evening food. An area in which the hotel needs to improve is stocking up the food at the buffet. There were many times during breakfast that the trays of food were empty: no sausages, no bacon, no waffles... And the cooks were either not making any, or not that we could see, or they were making them only once the stock had all depleted and you would have to wait a while for new food to be cooked. Location wise, the hotel was maybe a 10-15 minute walk for us to Playa Fanabe which had a lot of shops and restaurants. You can continue to walk maybe another 15 minutes down the strip to get to the marina. The best & cheapest shop I would recommend is the one down the escalators in the mall outside the hotel (Plaza Del Duque). There's a shop underneath the hotel in an area called "The Corner" which is also like a little mall itself, but it is way more expensive. One last thing I would like to note is that at San Sebastian Plaza (for Gold guests only) the alcohol is not free! We made the mistake of thinking that all alcohol was free (only select drinks are free) and after ordering two cocktails each on the first day, we had a €45 euro bill against our room. Next time we will make sure to really read the fine print, but that is our own mistake so make sure you don't...
Read moreThe hotel is very nice and the location is great, but service and amenities need much work. My husband and I have been all over Europe and the world and if you purport to be a five star hotel, the experience needs to support the rating.
We traveled from the US to Tenerife in August of 2025, and while August is Tenerife’s undisputed high season, there is no excuse for not having enough chairs at the pool for all guests, to the point that guests were claiming chairs with towels at 7am when the pool didn’t open until 10am (which in and of itself, is late). Those who didn’t stake their claim were unlikely to find a chair, which was our experience. We were then upsold on the opportunity to have a day in the exclusive San Sebastian area, where seating was more abundant and food and drinks were included. But once there, we found it, much like their spa, to be overrun with children and less than the serene and relaxing experience it was made out to be. While drinks were included (except the one that somehow was still charged to room), the food was scarce and had to be requested rather than offered. My husband asked for chips and watched as the bartender poured crumbs from the bottom of the bucket into a serving basket. This, apparently, is Gran Tacande’s idea of five star service.
He tried to provide constructive feedback to a member of their amenities staff but she clearly didn’t want to hear it and used the excuse that it’s high season and all hotels are very busy. He mentioned that children don’t belong in the exclusive area, nor the spa, and that exclusive requires friendly, attentive bar staff and does not include chip crumbs, that the pool needs more chairs and a system to prevent seats from being claimed all day with towels, yet no warm bodies in sight, much like Carnival Cruise Line and others have implemented… There, any towels or belongings left unattended for more than 30 minutes are put in safe keeping and the seat is made available for other guests. My husband did receive a call from the general manager apologizing for our subpar experience, and while we appreciated them acknowledging our concerns, he simply offered to have us try the exclusive area again, which by that point, we had absolutely no interest in doing. A better resolution would have been to refund the 80 euros we paid to have access and the drink that we were charged that was supposed to have been included.
On our last day, as we sat at the breakfast buffet, we couldn’t help but notice a gigantic cockroach that had been lying dead in the middle of the aisle for so long, it was being devoured by ants. All this while staff were walking by and two men who looked to be managers (because they were sitting in the restaurant before it opened to the public) sat by oblivious or indifferent to the critter, even as I very obviously took a photo of it, although we were not about to point it out to them, as we were done providing them feedback. Incidentally, the last day was my birthday and my husband included the special occasion on our reservation, yet they made no acknowledgement of the occasion which is another missed opportunity but not surprising.
That being said, anyone looking to stay at this hotel should expect a solid three star experience. Those used to and expecting anything more will be disappointed as service is clearly not their forte and by their own acknowledgement, the summer months are too busy for them to handle with any degree of standards, quality or efficiency. This hotel can be best described as...
Read moreI would love to give this hotel a 5-star rating, but unfortunately, that’s not possible for several reasons:
Staff behavior — disappointing and unprofessional The biggest issue during our stay was the inappropriate and intrusive behavior of the administrator, which left us with a very negative impression. I’ve stayed at another hotel of the same chain in Mallorca, and the experience there was outstanding. This time, sadly, it was the opposite — mainly due to poor communication and unprofessional handling of a very minor situation that turned into an unpleasant memory. One day, we left the pool area around 1:00 PM and returned after 4:00 PM. When we came back, we found our towels had been thrown onto a dirty table near our sunbeds, and a paper note had been placed underneath stating that sunbeds cannot be reserved. While we understand such rules exist, the way this was handled was completely inappropriate for a 5-star hotel. Around us, many sunbeds were left “reserved” for hours, yet no one else had their belongings touched. When we brought this up to the administrator, she responded in a dismissive and indifferent manner, saying simply, “That’s the hotel policy.” Strangely, it seemed that this policy was enforced only in our case. We submitted a written complaint via the hotel’s email. The next evening — August 17th, which was my birthday — instead of enjoying a peaceful and festive dinner, we were approached again by the same manager, Maria José Barrera, who came to our table — uninvited — and began a long, uncomfortable conversation trying to justify her previous actions. What was supposed to be a pleasant evening turned into an awkward and unwanted 15-minute lecture. Instead of acknowledging our concerns or offering a polite apology, she kept insisting she was right, and showed no understanding of how her actions had affected our stay. It felt extremely unprofessional and intrusive — especially on such a personal occasion.
Room service – too frequent Another inconvenience: hotel staff would enter our room 2–3 times a day for different reasons (to bring water, for turndown service, etc.). While we appreciated the effort, it became disruptive. In most hotels, room cleaning and service is done once per day, which is more than enough. It would be better to combine all tasks into a single visit to avoid unnecessary interruptions.
The good: That being said, the hotel itself has many great qualities: We rented a car, and although the windshield was dirty and there was no washer fluid, by the next morning it was sparkling clean. Huge thanks to whoever took care of that — we really appreciated it! The food at the hotel was fantastic — fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The hotel has its own underground parking garage, which was always available. Surprisingly, this isn’t mentioned on the website — but it was a big plus. Our room (011) was very spacious, stylish, and clean, with all the necessary amenities including an iron.
We genuinely enjoyed many aspects of the hotel: the room, the food, the facilities, and the overall comfort. But unfortunately, the towel incident and the administrator’s intrusive and tone-deaf attitude — especially on my birthday — left us disappointed. It’s a shame, because the hotel itself is truly lovely. But some staff members, especially those in management, need proper training in professionalism and...
