Americans! This review is for you. My husband and I travel frequently for work and did a 8 night Barcelona stay for vacation. Everything you need to know relating to your American self and if you’ll make it in this hotel room is here. Quit reading reviews and just book here (but read my review first!).
This hotel was fabulous overall. This hotel ISNT for the 5-star rich folk that expect the world class experience. This IS for the slightly budget conscious, but still enjoy the finer things in life. It’s your typical, slightly elevated Hampton Inn. It’s a boutique hotel, similar to a Distrikt, Aloft, etc. We stayed in room 703, an end of hallway room on the highest floor for guest rooms. Our room was clean and well kept, we had regular room service every day where they completely changed all towels every day and I think even changed the sheets every day. We had the cheapest room with a king bed. The room is small - think New York or Chicago. But based on my ELABORATE research before booking, this appeared larger than some. It had a balcony to the street which I loved! It’s small but was really nice just to step out and people watch. There was very little street noise at night (I read reviews of other hotels where clubs nearby were noisy). My husband thought the bed was a little hard but I liked it.
The bathroom is small. There’s a hairdryer and bidet. There is no iron! Another thing I found in research is most bathrooms don’t have shower doors or half doors?! This is a good option because it has a tub (rather than flat tile), so while it does have a half-glass door, less water gets everywhere. The shower was a little narrow but the water pressure was GREAT and we always had good hot water.
THE GREAT: the air conditioning. In Spain, we quickly learned that air conditioning has different definitions between here and the states. We booked this room because it had in-room thermostat controls (CHECK THIS - most hotels here don’t!). It was around 85 degrees every day but Barcelona is SO humid (coming from Arkansans where it is very humid). You walk everywhere and would instantly sweat when you step outside. Our hotel room may have been the coldest hotel room in Spain in the best way possible.
We found the 8th floor rooftop bar on one of our last days - don’t miss this!! They do live music Sundays and Thursdays and this was a fantastic casual spot to grab a drink and some charcuterie before dinner. We did not try the hotel breakfast which is €15 if you don’t reserve with booking. It’s on the second floor.
It was both our honeymoon and my birthday. They gave us two free drink cards for the rooftop bar and brought champagne and glasses to our room on my birthday (my husband asked/noted both on the reservation). This was a super nice touch. The room has a small mini fridge with drinks to buy. It did not have a microwave. It did have a safe but we didn’t use it. There are mini-marts on both sides of the street near the hotel so we bought 6packs of bottled water to take up. There is also a Subway (we joked the Subway was our beacon of hope after walking/sweating all day), a couple Asian restaurants, etc nearby. This is far enough from Las Ramblas and luxury shopping to avoid the higher prices and crowds but close enough that walking isn’t terrible.
There was a recent review of things being stolen in the hotel lobby. We NEVER encountered anything like this. The lobby was almost ALWAYS empty. If something was stolen, I believe it their own fault for not watching their belongings. You can feel safe here.
We would 100% stay here...
Read morethe good-
Location, location and once again location.
This hotel is located two glasses of beer away from Catalonia Square and is an excellent starting point for most attractions (with the exception of Park Goel which is about half an hour away by bus/15 minutes by metro)
The hotel is tidy and in a very good state of maintenance, except for a few points that I will list below.
On the eighth floor there is a pool and pampering seating areas with pleasant music at a precise volume that is present but does not take over. It's just fun to hang out there.
The staff is very polite and responds quickly to any request
The equipment in the rooms is very good:
A small fridge that holds some drinks and snacks for an additional fee safe box A device for drying towels in the bathroom bidet (🤔) Electric Kettle wardrobe Lamps scattered everywhere
Unlike other hotels, there are three large bottles in the shower containing shampoo, shower gel and hair conditioner, so there is no need to ask for a renewal every few days.
The room cleaning service works flawlessly.
The noise insulation from the street works excellently, probably thanks to the installation of double glass in the windows.
They also serve breakfast at the place, but I haven't tried them so I can't vouch for their quality, but judging by the general impression, I believe it's worth checking out for those who are interested.
the bad-
Scattered in the room are many light switches and other switches that seem to be responsible for some kind of light, it turns out that they deactivate the electrical outlets. An inscription on these switches would serve everyone.
In addition many ac sockets I tried in the room did not work consistently and in a rather strange way
The same situation is with roof, all the ac power sockets didn't work.
Some of the couch lining is torn.
It is not so clear how to operate the towel dryer
Affter checking with the reception they told us that you should ask from the to activate it otherwise it will not work In this case too, some kind of inscription would have helped the customers to also use the facility.
Since the rooms are separated by drywall , every door closing in the next room by nearby guests translates into an annoying knock on the wall of the next room, right where the bed is.
it is worth it for the hotel owners to think of an adequate solution to the matter, because it can be annoying.
We figured out that our bath room dor was faulty.
In the end, I do think it's a very small issue's in my point of view.
This place is almost perfect and it deserve 4.5 stars, sadly there is no way to give a half of a star
This note are for helping the manager/owner to take the place for perfection
the ugly-
There are not enough places like this
I will visit...
Read moreGreat hotel with very nice staff. They speak English very well for visiting Americans. The location is perfect for anyone wanting to be near Las Ramblas but not in an overcrowded space. They're five minutes from the wonderful Barcelona Market and a 5 minute cab ride to Gaudi's famous Sigura Familia church which is a must see as one of the most incredible churches in the world. The rooms are very spacious with in room minibar / fridge, in room safes that can hold multiple laptops etc and the bed is very comfortable with lights switched by the bed and also spot halogen lights for late night reading while your spouse sleeps. You get a desk and chair with a plug at desk height to avoid crawling underneath for power.Roomservice and minibar prices are quite fairly priced for any hotel. The terrace has three sections with a pool in one, large couches with umbrellas in the second, and couches under shaded areas. Along the walls even 10 feet are small lights that have a plug close by that has the standard outlet and 2 USB plugs which is very thoughtful. Couches are comfortable with lots if pillows. Fair warning, if it has rained, grab a pool towel because the seat cushions collect water in the lower half which, when sat in, get your butt soaked.
They would get 5 stars if they would keep their terrace lit at night and open until midnight for people who want to gather together and socialize in groups. It costs nothing but I guess they just think they have to close it regardless of demand even though there is no extra cost to just leave it open. I suggest they simply block off the pool for after hours. The restaurant is nice and a little pricey at €14 for breakfast but the serve a good variety of things from cookies, fresh made melon/kiwi/orange/apple juice, 6 kinds of Spanish ham, 3 kinds of cheese, a good selection of yogurts both in factory and homemade that you can add 3-4 kinds or granola/cereal to. They will cook an omelet or eggs to order and have a great Nepresso self serve machine for cafe, Cafe con leche, hot chocolate, etc. There's a great selection of breads and bread type cookies as well as cava for the alcoholic needing morning relief from last night's adventures. They have parking on lower levels, meeting rooms, and nice small lounge areas on the main floor and on the first floor overlooking the lobby.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND...
