7-night holiday over Easter, travelling as a family of four with two children (ages 10 and 13). ||Accommodation and Hotel||Car Hire: We hired a car for flexibility, and it turned out to be essential given the location. However, parking information wasn't mentioned at booking, and we were surprised by how difficult parking was on arrival. Clearer guidance around parking and car hire needs would be very helpful for guests.||Location: The property is situated at the top of a very steep hill/mountain, which should really be highlighted in the booking information. It's not ideal for those with mobility issues or families with young children without a car.||Food: We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis. The food was fine, but healthier options were quite limited.||Rooms: The rooms were a good size, clean, and the adult beds were very comfortable. However, the children's beds were uncomfortable, and the sofa bed we pulled out was very dirty underneath. We also had to request extra sheets, as it got chilly in the evenings.||Local Area: We were disappointed by the nearby precinct of shops and bars. We felt quite uncomfortable due to the aggressive tactics from some shop and restaurant owners, and there was a visible presence of groups of young men at corners, which didn't feel safe — particularly with small children. As a result, we used the car most evenings to visit more family-friendly, upmarket areas in nearby towns.||Cleanliness: Litter and unpleasant smells were a real issue in the surrounding area, with dog mess unfortunately quite common on pavements.||Hotel Sunbeds: The hotel pool area was frustrating — by 9am, all sunbeds were already reserved with towels, making it very difficult to find anywhere to sit unless you were up extremely early. It would be good if the hotel enforced a fairer system.||Pool Area: There’s no real view from the pool; most sunbeds faced a large white wall and a visible air-conditioning unit. No inflatables.||Facilities: The pool table was broken during our stay, which was disappointing for our boys — money kept getting stuck and several balls were missing.||Service: Reception staff were polite but casual. We enquired about upgrading from B&B to all-inclusive, as we didn’t feel comfortable eating locally, but staff were unhelpful. They took our room number and promised to follow up, but never did.||Smoking: One of our biggest issues was the amount of smoking — it was unavoidable across the hotel grounds. As non-smokers, it really impacted our experience. We couldn’t leave our patio doors open due to guests in neighboring apartments chain-smoking for hours, which also meant we couldn't dry towels or clothes outside without them picking up the smell.||Supermarket: Onsite and open until 10pm daily. Well stocked and plenty of variety of both fresh and ambient food.||Recommended Places||Amadores Beach:|A beautiful sandy beach with clear waters. Sunbeds and parasols are available for €15 (cash only, no card payments). Facilities include toilets (€0.70 per visit) and showers (€2). There are plenty of beachside restaurants and cafés to choose from. An inflatable obstacle course on the sea is great for children (€10 for 1 hour or €25 for a full day). The beach gets very busy, especially in peak times. Free parking is available, but be sure to park legally as parking is actively monitored and fines are issued.||Playa de Puerto Rico:|A sheltered sandy beach offering dolphin boat rides and water sports, which can be booked directly from the beach. There’s ample parking via cash-only payment meters. The marina and beach are lovely, and the toilets are clean and free to use. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops nearby.||Puerto de Mogán:|Very classy, chic, and upmarket — a real highlight of the trip. The marina is beautiful, and the surrounding area is filled with charming shops, bars, and restaurants. There’s a small beach where you can pay for sunbeds via a payment machine. A large Spar supermarket nearby offers fresh fruit, vegetables, and other picnic essentials if you prefer a more casual beach day. On Fridays, a huge market takes place, which is vibrant but very busy. Parking is easy with a large underground car park available.||Mogán Mall:|Just a 7-minute drive away, this stylish outdoor shopping centre has a great range of shops (including Lefties, Pull&Bear, Bershka, Mango), bakeries, gelato stalls, and restaurants. Parking is plentiful in the...
Read moreWhat a fantastic hotel (bare in mind this is a self catering review)
Room: our room is massive. We are two adults and two teenage children, and our room has two bedrooms (a double bed, two singles), kitchen area, living area and large balcony area (enough for table and four chairs, two sunbeds). The room is very modern, clean and the beds are comfy. There is a lot of cupboard/wardrobe space, the kitchen has a microwave, hob, fridge freezer and all the utensils. The shower room is large with lots of warm water, and there is a hairdryer.
Pool: the pool is a lovely modern area. Very clean, lots of beds, nice and relaxed. Bare in mind I write this review after staying in January. There are a lot of people here now, but I imagine it getting busier in the summer months.
Staff: all staff have been very friendly and helpful.
Entertainment/food/drink: we haven't experienced all of the entertainment (we are explorers), but we have seen some as we have walked in/out. There was a lovely singer one evening. There is also bingo and darts tournaments throughout the day. I have to be honest, from what we have seen, I wouldn't say all inclusive is worth it. The entertainment area is very small (I imagine crowded in the summer) and lacking in my opinion as there is not much on offer all day/everyday. There wasn't much happening to keep us there and we like to explore, try different places, find quirky bars etc. So we stayed out most dsys/nights.
If you like a quiet drink, in a chilled atmosphere, with some entertainment here and there, all inclusive here is for you. Although, I fail to see how children are entertained. There is no play area (apart from the pool), so unless they are happy on thier phones/tablets, or will sit around content, they will get bored.
We haven't eaten the food, but it looks lovely and each night they offer something different. Drinks are drinks. They do give us different as we are paying (others help themselves). It also says house beers/spirits are all inclusive, but you still have to pay €2 for certain cocktails etc. We find the drinks a reasonable price (especially happy hour).
Location: prepare for the hills. This hotel is on top of Snowden (joke). It is high up in the mountain, so if you like walking up/down hills this is the place for you. Puerto Rico Beach is around a 20 minute walk down around 700 steps or a steep hill. We preferred Amadores Beach as it was more relaxed, friendly, more things to do, places to sit and drink (still a 20 minute walk down/up a steep hill). Taxi up/down €4 each way.
Europa centre is a few minutes walk from the hotel. This place has all you need, Spar, bars, restaurants, kids area, entertainment etc. We spent a number of evenings here, especially in the Jamaica bar. They have connect 4, snakes and ladders on the tables, darts, pool.. A lovely chilled atmosphere.
Soux City is a must (even if you don't have kids). It is hilarious! The acting alone is 5* cheesy and worth every penny.
Mogan for Market day on Friday is good. We took a taxi €15 each way, but you can take a bus (cheaper) or a ferry (more expensive). Lots of things for sale. The market is very long and was quite cramped, but okay for us. I saw a few older people and those with prams struggling, but there are places to rest and chill on the way through. When you get to the end you walk across the road to the beach, which is beautiful. Walk all along the beach, round the old streets, have some lunch and a cocktail and it is a great day out.
Be aware some places charge 7% gratuity/tax on the bill. They aren't supposed to so ask before you go in. Lots of people try to hook you in to thier restaurants/bar's (as you expect), which does get annoying. As a Brit I like my space and hate people hovering over me. I want to read the menu and make my own mind up without some random whispering ribs, burgers,...
Read moreWe have just come back from our first holiday abroad with the kids (6 and 13). I had booked it about 8 weeks before due to budget and the good reviews. I was so excited for the kids then after reading a few more reviews some seeds of worry and doubt crept in. I shouldn't of listened. Yes the rooms are basic and not all shiny and new but they are clean and have what you need. Our beds all had mattress toppers so were comfy. Bedding was changed a few times, clean towels when you needed them, floors mopped etc. We had a swim up room which was bliss. The kids loved both the main pool and our swim up (swim up is a little cooler than the main pool so we used to use it in the afternoon before having showers ready for dinner). |The staff were all friendly, attentive and were lovely with kids. They worked really hard to keep the dining area clean. |Entertainment on the whole was good, we had a magic show, a singer, a motown group and Spanish dancers while we were there with a quiz night and karaoke too. |There isn't a huge amount of kids entertainment but they put on some random bits. Some games and did aome tattoos. THe entertainment staff did try and get people involved. Bingo is everyday too which we had a few goes at. |Food...well we had no complaints, breakfast with all the usual English items, continental, waffles, pancakes, cereal. Lunch and dinner were varied with the usual bit if continuity of chips, pizza pasta etc. Everything was tasty, hot and constantly topped up. Puddings were to die for, little patisseries, cake, chocolate fountain, ice cream machine, sweets, fresh fruit. My teenager certainly got the money's worth of all inclusive. There was English breakfast tea, coffee, juice, filtered water, slushies, 3 cocktails for all inclusive, beer, sangria, spirits, coca cola, Fanta, sprite. You couldn't want for anything. My partner can be sensitive to food abroad but we enjoyed every single meal we had. |The hotel is at the top of the mountains but taxis are cheap, you can walk to the nearby europa shopping centre, was OK there, we got some nick nacks for home but if we'd had a bit more time we would of visited the bigger Mogan or Commercial centres. The free beach bus was great, goes to and throw the beach at 3 times of day and we used it twice. For a morning at the beach itself and then to walk along the coastal path to Puerto Rico and get the blue bird boat to Mogan. |For us (and as I said I was worried seeing some reviews) this was the perfect first holiday for us as a family. Great on the budget, food, staff, facilities etc. Would definitely come back, missing it already. I can be pretty picky, especially with cleanliness but I couldn't really fault it. |Good things to know....taxis about €5/6 to Puerto Rico or €3/4 to the local beach area. Free courtesy bus everyday, 3x a day. Safe for the room €20 but with €10 back at the end. Beach Towel hire €10. Check out 12 noon and if all inclusive they don't cut your bands off so you can eat and drink until your transfer to the airport. We used the room for a quick swim and final showers before we had to check out and had lunch whilst we waited. There's a little laundrette on site, supermarket too with everything you could need. There's courtesy showers and luggage/lockers once checked out. The rep for Tui was onsite everyday, twice a day. Rooms don't have aircon but do have large ceiling fans, you can hire aircon but we didn't and I'm glad we didn't as the fans were OK for us. We kept the curtains shut in the day and opened the patio door etc at night. |I can honestly say this was the best first holiday for us...
