I have been travelling for 20 years and in terms of value for money and customer service, Casa Margarita is probably the worst accommodation I have ever stayed in. ||||It got off to a bad start when I arrived at 7.30pm on my first evening - there is no reception or any onsite staff at all, so I had to make a phone call (which will cost me money as I have a UK phone contract) in order to get someone to check me in and give me the key. This person clearly had a second job working in a restaurant as they were wearing an apron when they arrived. ||||There were no room facilities except soap, towels and toilet paper. Also I was shocked to find there was no heating in the room in the middle of winter - you have to pay extra for it, which is quite frankly a disgrace in a developed country hotel/boarding house charging 70 euros a night!! The rooms were not cleaned every day and inside the hotel you can hear a lot of noise from the other rooms.||||Finally, you have to leave your key in the reception area when you go out - however, as there are no staff at the property, anyone could potentially walk off the street, take the keys and enter your room. Soller seems a very safe town but this felt like poor security to me.||||Casa Margarita is an old Mallorcan house that is not without charm, with its antique furniture and excellent location in the centre of Soller. But it is clearly being ran by owners seeking to spend as little money as possible, by offering the absolute minimum of service to customers. They are taking advantage of the fact Soller is a very desirable location with limited accommodation options. Do not support this attitude by...
Read morePros: close to train station and plaza; antique furniture||Cons: lack of attention to detail; ran as a hostel; uncomfortable beds; cost vs value||||I think there was a minor Spanish holiday the weekend we stayed here as we had difficulty finding a nicer place and were glad to have stayed here all said and done. The arrangements were made over the phone and it was a cash only transaction of 80 euro for a double bed with bath in room and what looked like a shared terrace. Others paid about 10 euro less for shared bath. The rooms are fine but there is no climate control. Stayed 2 nights and rooms were not serviced on Sat. No breakfast at that rate and this may be acceptable for the prices in Soller. The antique furniture is nice but not particularly functional. If you aren't spending much time in the room this is a decent choice but without any real interactions with the staff which we essentially never saw. In other words, my impression is that an aging proprietor is continuing to run the hotel with hired help that are cursorily interested. No harm in that, gotta...
Read moreFirst let me say that the young lady looking after the place when we were there was hard working, approachable, and helpful. A marked difference to the associated restaurant nearby where the offhanded and near rude reception to our inquiries led to our going elsewhere.||||The room was quite small but was as presented, a little noisy with the MC's and scooters racing up the narrow street in front, but towels and sheets were clean.||It is centrally located to the old town and train station while hikes to nearby locations||are easy.||||There is a "supermarket" close by as well as many eating places of all types.||||We would spend more next time for better accomodation, but do not have any||major regrets at...
