LoLa is one of those places that us Brits call “a diamond in the rough”. Me and my better half love our food and like to make sure every meal we eat in restaurants is something special. LoLa delivered food that was special, spectacular, unique, thoughtful and locally sourced, served by a team that were knowledgable and a real pleasure to talk with.
We were only in Gran Canaria for 5 days but after our first meal at LoLa, having only sampled 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts, we felt it necessary to return for another dinner to indulge in 6 more of their delightful dishes. Stand out dishes include: A spectacular smoked tuna, perfectly balanced, accompanied by a wild glacier lettuce that tasted more like a full flavoured-sea vegetable rather than the watery leaf with which we are all familiar; a knock out octopus carpaccio; stunning goat-cheese stuffed courgette flowers and delightful salt cod fritters accompanied by pillow-light courgette tempura. These were just the starters. Canarian scorpion fish, melt in the mouth confit duck leg, pork belly and milk fed lamb, accompanied by cloud-like duck fat roasted hasselback potatoes were a few of the main events. Our incredible host, kindly remembered our love of their incredible potatoes and served us up an extra portion on the house.
A small but thoughtful, cleverly curated wine list sits alongside the menu, with our hosts having lovingly sampled each and every one, ready and able to advise as to which will best accompany your combination of courses. Lazarote (not Canarian 🤫) wines are the unashamed stars of the show here.
LoLa is located in the most unlikely place - a garish, touristy shopping centre where Burger King and bars selling bargain-basement Jaegermeisters rule. Which is a big part of LoLa’s charm: It is indeed a diamond in the rough, the charming Canary in this volcanic rough. LoLa is Gran Canria’s foodie-haven. If you ever find yourself here, make sure you visit the worst-of-the-80s shopping centre that houses one of this century’s best restaurants. LoLa is a delicious delight that everyone, everywhere...

Lola stands for traditions, but strive to renew. And that also exudes the restaurant. The restaurant looks relatively small and cozy. The tables are nicely set and everything has an eye for detail. On the walls hang paintings with skulls that immediately catch your eye when you sit down. Bright colors shoot off the plates and give a modern atmosphere.
When you enter you are kindly greeted by I think the owner. He takes you to your table and explains how everything works.
There is a QR code printed on wood on the table and here is my only downside. I like having a well-designed menu in my hand and I don't want to be on my phone when I go out to eat. It all just doesn't work well because what was the name of your drink if you're looking for luxury starters.
Anyway now the food, as an amuse we got a (delicious Dutch) mini croquette with bread. Very tasty and nothing to complain about.
As a starter I had the Beef tartare and my girlfriend the Caprese 2.0 both were beautifully made and were incredibly tasty.
The drinks you get are also made with an eye for detail. Just taking that one step extra for the customer and I love that.
Then the main course. I had the black angus Serlion steak with corn and potatoes. It wasn't the best piece of meat I've ever had as it still had some fat and tendon on it. But all in all a delicious dish that I would order again.
My girlfriend had a spinach ricotta ravioli and again this was beautifully made and very tasty.
I would definitely recommend Lola if you are willing to pay a little extra for your food and a...
Read moreWhere to start! Lola positions itself as 'Casual Fine Dining', well it definitely exceeded our expectations. We are grateful to Fabrizio for making the effort to take our last minute reservation for tonight, which was our only night free before heading back home. A good friend in the restaurant industry made this strong recommendation after a great experience himself there. It was great advice and we were so pleased to have taken it. The evening was perfect, an amazing taste sensation. An unusual combination of locally sourced quality products were quite obviously part of this restaurant ethos. The fusion of flavours hit the mark course after course. We were grateful to have spent several hours over dinner without being rushed whatsoever, and we really appreciated that. Most importantly, we had chosen a matching wine to suit the menu, but were advised on another option, which we took, and were pleased we had. It was the perfect compliment to the meal. The choice of food was so unusual and everything we were served was exceptional in both faultless presentation and, of course, taste. A real fusion for the taste buds. This is one restaurant you should not fail to try, as it will be an experience you won't stop singing about. I look forward to visiting again, knowing the menu changes regularly. Good luck with the new venture Fabrizio. All the very best and a sincere thank you for a most memorable...
