The hotel is located about 1km from the centre of Teguise which can be easily accessed from the coastal path that runs from the hotel.
There are about 10 different types of rooms which are all a bit confusing. We booked a suite with partial sea view and were allocated room 501. There's only one other such room type. Our room had a separate room for our bedroom and a bath. The room was amazing although our view was looking directly at the room of the restaurant. The bed was also 2 single beds pushed together with 2 separate duvets.
There are 3 "suites" which are located right next to the middle pool. They have no balcony, no sun loungers and no view at all. They look directly at the other rooms. There are 7 beachfront suits which have spectacular views and balconies. There are a few special rooms and the rest are junior suites.
We wouldn't book the suite with partial sea view again as our room was above the kitchen and next to the service entry. We were woken every day by trucks reversing (beeping), staff talking, banging of equipment, the sound of crates being wheeled about (probably food deliveries and linen etc) not to mention a regular high-pitched sound that would last 22 seconds. I'm still none the wiser as to what it was but it was very annoying. The noise would start between 0430 and 0500 each day and last for a few hours. We both get up early on holiday but not that early. It left us feeling tired most days. We considered asking to be moved after it was bad on the second day of our stay but by that point we couldn't bare relocating. I can't imagine we're the only people ever to have this issue. So in summary don't book the suite with partial sea view as there's only 2 and you might get room 501!
We've never stayed at a hotel where the staff are so friendly. Nati in the restaurant spent half her time hugging people and helping the elderly with their plates.
The food selection was amazing also. Breakfast was a huge range of meats, cheese, cereals (including porridge), bread, fruit, fruit juices, cooked food and they would also make you an omelette or poached eggs on request. There was also cava! Many people would enjoy breakfast and then leave with a glass to sit by the pool. Dinner was again a huge range of foods - salads, meats, breads, hot meals, carvery (each night varied - turkey, beef, pork etc) and again the grill. The chef would a different range of meals each night to cook for you. There are 4 pools - 3 larger pools and one small infinity style pool. All were very clean and very well maintained. The lifeguards have towels and hand them out on request. There is no deposit or fee - just ask for a towel and hand it back to replace it as you wish.
There is a small gym with basic equipment - I'd go early or late as it isn't air conditioned and is warmer than the temp outside due to the sun shinning through the glass. There is a water machine just outside the gym and towels are provided. They also have yoga and other activities on during the day for people to take part in. I used the gym 5 times and was on my own 4 times, so it really isn't used much at all.
Each evening there was "entertainment"- bingo, dancing, singing, quiz etc. It usually started about 8:30pm and finished by 10:30pm to 11pm. It wasn't really our interest, and we walked into Teguise most evenings or drove elsewhere.
Age demographic - This is an adults only (16+) hotel. The majority of guests were in the 60s to 80s with some very elderly. The week we were there we saw 2 other younger couples in the 30s to 40s. It has the feeling of a care home if I am honest and I wouldn't take older teenagers here unless they are good at amusing themselves. They do have an air hockey table, darts board and pool table for entertainment by the pool but nothing else.
In summary, it's a great hotel with wonderful facilities and staff. I'd certainly go back but never again to the same room - I'd save and pay to upgrade to the oceanfront suite for some luxury or just go with a junior suite sea view as those rooms are...
Read moreThis is an adults only hotel with 80% of the visitors being in the retirement age bracket. This being said it would not stop me returning, it is truly an excellent hotel. First the negatives:
The all inclusive packages : I think the deals themselves are OK as per se but it is the restrictions on how they can be used: 1. People in same room aren't allowed to have different packages. 2. You must buy the AI package for a minimum of 4 days 3. You can't change the package once you have chosen it and 4. Once you have chosen a package you must have it until you leave.
Cleaning costs : it was actually cheaper to buy more socks than it was to use their cleaning service plus their rules on compensation if they damage the item (4x cleaning charge if I remember) that it wasn't worth risking the more expensive items of clothing.
Sun beds: this hotel is filled with 90% British and it showed, it was overcast in the first week of our stay but people were lying under blankets to reserve the sunbeds (can't reserve with towel until 10am) I wish they would ban the practice all together.
Evening meal clothing : don't have a problem with the requirement of smart casual dress code for the evening meal but it is not enforced, you are told this when you book the holiday on TUI website, I bought shirts for this purpose and then there are people wearing beach wear for the evening meal, felt a bit Robbed.
Safe deposit box: You are charged 3 euros a day for the use of your rooms safe deposit box plus a 20 or 30 euro deposit, it is really a sneak tax to charge you for the free pool towels.
The good:
The rooms : we payed extra for the sea view suite (room 262) and it was lovely, separate bedroom to the lounge area probably not much bigger than the standard rooms but they are all a very good size anyway and you don't feel cramped although not many plug sockets. really nice room to stay in, yes you will come across the odd creepy crawly and the toilets might be a bit whiffy but you are on a volcanic island what do you expect? Rooms were cleaned daily to a very good standard and our cleaning lady was lovely 2 bottles of water added every day along with tea and coffee bits, fridge in lounge what more do you want.
Wifi: I know about the issues with the WiFi previously but it was fixed whilst we were there (they got a new company in) got about a 3mb connection in our room enough to download videos from Google play, by the time we left WiFi coverage across the hotel was good.
Food: out of the 14 days we were there, there were maybe 2 days when the evening main meal was a bit bland and not to our liking and I think that is pretty darn good, we always found something nice to eat and that included the bland days be it the salad or soup and the deserts were awesome. Couldn't ask for more for the breakfast and the mid day food was also really good (burgers were fantastic) and excellent calamari.
Staff: They are truly awesome, nothing to much for them, always smiling, helpful and polite, it only took a few days before they knew what we were drinking with our meals wish we could get the same service in the UK.
Extra info and tips:
Upgraded rooms get to use aircon through the night. Use your tesco/ costa card in the room card slot to keep the power on in your room when you are out (charge phone, laptop etc) Not many plugs so bring a small multi plug extension. Don't need safe deposit box. Bring microfiber towels instead of using theirs. The pool isn't really cold compared to other countries but heating is being installed for 2020 Pack a lot of Paracetamol stuff as it's expensive out here and can only be bought from a pharmacy and most will try and sell you herb versions. If you use the AI package you can ask for water bottles and cans which you can store in your fridge. Chocolates and sweets are very expensive compared to UK if you have a sweet tooth then bring them with you. Lanzarote is very windy june to August, does make it feel cool but wind can be annoying.
Overall great place...
Read more10 nights was not enough, I could stay here for a month! Every single thing about Radisson Blu Lanzarote was just perfect.
From the second we arrived, till the second we left, we couldn’t have had a more perfect holiday.
Just for reference, I am 26 and my partner is 28 and we are a lesbian couple. Some places we have stayed in the past haven’t been the most welcoming or accommodating for us, but that was far from the case here. Everyone was so friendly, guests, staff, everyone! The age range was very mixed, so younger couples can feel just as welcome as older guests too which was a great feeling.
Visually it was one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve ever been too. The beach by the hotel is rather rocky, but there’s perfectly sandy beaches nearby, so don’t let that put you off. Besides, there’s 4 HUGE pools to compensate for that!
One of my favourite things about this hotel, was that there was PLENTY of sun loungers! Not a single one being reserved at 7:00am like other hotels! We were going down at around 10am, and we were spoilt for choice still!
Breakfast was the best I’ve ever had at a resort, and there’s something for everyone! Dinner wasn’t the best for me, but I am a picky eater. Some nights there was pasta, but it would have been good if this could have been available every night, or if there were some burgers, pizzas ect (for us fussy eaters 😅). There is PLENTY of food places nearby however, which we LOVED going to. Costa Tegusise town is just a 6 minute walk from the hotel, and we were able to eat all the Italian, Mexican and American food we wanted 😋 and it was actually a nice little walk in the evenings after hours of relaxing by the pool all day. The beach gate by the bottom of the hotel leads you right onto a path that leads into town. The hotel is in a great location and It was amazing how accessible it was!
I have to just mention my absolute favourite part of this hotel which was the staff. They go above and beyond to make you smile, feel happy and really make your time there special. You cannot walk past a single member of staff at this hotel without them smiling, saying hello or asking how you are, it’s just so lovely. Two particular members of staff I HAVE to mention were Nati and Dani. They are an asset to this hotel and really made me laugh and smile, we were really sad to leave!
I could not recommend this hotel highly enough, and I hope I’m lucky enough to be back here soon. Thank you for an incredible holiday that I’ll...
