The only reasons I'm not giving one star is that 1. Maybe our problems were just happening in some days, not all (judging by other more positive comments, but still many people talk about the same problems we had too), and 2. The albergue was objectively clean, big, modern, and cheap (10€). It had clean and working bathrooms, showers, washing machines.
But this doesn't change the fact that, at least when we went there: the only! receptionist, the guy with goatee and little braid, spoke only Spanish (in a pilgrim hostel!) and was also pretty harsh in tone (I understand the retail stress if your day is going wrong, but not to this degree); many people had problem with different kinds of IDs, the only ones working 100% of the time being the more modern ones and passports, but if a document is valid in my EU country, it must be valid here too. And apparently it's not a new problem but one they haven't fixed yet; the consequence of these two things were that it took a couple hours to just do the check-in; they WiFi is very difficult to access: the instructions posted outside are incorrect, the correct ones are inside, and it's a longer than usual process too. So if you wanted to start accessing WiFi while waiting in the queue: tough luck; the WiFi works in the "living room" on the fourth floor and in the kitchen/lobby on the ground floor, but not in the rooms; the kitchen doesn't have utensils, just water, surfaces and stoves, which would not be a problem for a 10€ price but added to all the rest gets a bit unsustainable.
I really hope they solve all this problems, especially hiring more people to help the receptionist (ideally some English speaking ones) and updating the checking-in system, because the hostel would be an absolute...
Read moreI don't understand these positive reviews, this is the worst albergue I've seen on camino and I've stayed at plenty of them! Try to avoid this place if you want to get some sleep. Yes it's "modern" but there is no a/c and the place is unbelievably hot day and night. Every room stinks really bad including the kitchen. The beds are so unstable that if either of the persons moves, the whole bed shakes and the other person wakes up. There is not even a single knife, fork, plate or a glass in the kitchen. It's empty. The toilets have no privacy at all and there are 2 toilets for the whole floor of like 50 people. I have seen some bad albergues but this one is unbelievable. All the people were in such a bad mood especially because of how hot it was there. It's impossible to sleep, I literally did not sleep at all and my whole day is ruined. Actually I'd much rather prefer if it wasn't "modern" because it has no vibe, there is a common area that looks like a waiting room at doctor's office, no one was sitting there despite 80 people sleeping in the albergue. Try to avoid this place, there are plenty of...
Read moreThe kitchen exists in name only. No utensils, cutlery, plates, not even drinking glasses…which turned out to be redundant as the couple running the albergue were militantly anti-drinking. Not even a glass of wine with dinner was acceptable. Actually they were fairly hostile in general. Very unfriendly, slow to check people in, overbearing and just seemed to not like pilgrims or running an albergue. The actual building is decent, modern, clean, the showers and rooms are good, if a little cramped & the WiFi doesn’t work without an access code that nobody without a Spanish SIM could access…which isn’t exclusive to this albergue. If you can’t find accommodation elsewhere, this place will do, but it’s easily one of the less welcoming...
