Staying at Hotel Geranio was one of the highlights of my two-week trip to Italy and Switzerland. The hotel rooms are sparkling clean, with generous towels and lovely toiletries, and a cute little balcony. The room is small, but there are a desk and a place for luggage, and also a good reading light on the bedside table, as well as a place to hang clothes. Also, a big assortment of coffee and tea is available day and night, and a bag of delicious biscotti are in the room when you arrive, so each night before bed, I had a cup of ginger lemon tea and some biscotti as I remembered the day with its many delights (the camellia festival! and the chair lift to Mt. Cimetta that was one of the most beautiful peak experiences I have ever had). The breakfasts are wonderful, with hardboiled eggs and ones you can boil yourself, along with meats, a wide selection of cheese and many kinds of delicious breads, yogurt, and fruit. Wifi worked perfectly in the room.||||So a 5-star review is easy to give, but I would really like to add another 5 stars for the wonderful help the staff gave me when I left my cell phone at the railway station. The woman at the desk called my phone, a man at the train station answered, and I picked up the phone moments later. However, in tearing the bed apart to look for the phone, I knocked my prescription sunglasses into the bedding and didn't see them as I was leaving. By the time I realized they were missing, we were on a train to Zurich. I emailed the hotel, they replied very quickly to let me know the glasses had been found, they mailed them to me promptly, and I so appreciated their kind attitude and efficiency. I certainly intend to stay there the next time I am at Lake Maggiore, although I hope I am not remembered as the ditzy woman who couldn't keep track of anything! ||||Note: The hotel is convenient to several parks, the cable cars to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso, the chairlift that continues up the mountain to the top of Mt. Cimetta, and the Termali Salini and Spa, all within walking distance.||||Fall in love with Locarno at the...
Read moreI stayed here for 9 nights for a conference in the town. I am so glad I chose this hotel. I was given an upgrade to a double room due to the length of my stay, which was very nice. The room was spacious and had a balcony with a view of part of the lake. Unfortunately I didn't have much time to enjoy it as it was a busy week. The bed was firm, just as I prefer, and very comfy. The room had air conditioning, which was great, as the temperature was in the high 20s for all of my stay. Plenty of storage and the bathroom had everything I needed, once I found the hidden cupboard behind the mirror! The staff were so friendly and helpful. I want to mention the reception staff Maria Theresa and Monique in particular who were very kind and happy to do anything they could to help - thank you very much! They let me use the hotel's laundry room to iron a few items and even went to the restaurant next door to get some ice for me to help with inflammation from insect bites, which I had a bad reaction to. Beware of the midges when sitting outside at night. ||||The location of the hotel is perfect, the road in front of the hotel is very quiet, hardly any traffic, just a few steps and you're walking along the pathway alongside the lake. Only 10 minutes walk to Piazza Grande and the Palacinema where our conference was held. ||Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. A nice touch from the hotel was the 24 hour access to tea and coffee, as this isn't provided in the rooms, but is accessible in the breakfast room at any time. ||I found the hotel to be extremely clean and comfortable, and quiet. Not sure how many rooms were occupied during my stay, but I didn't really hear anyone else. I would definitely recommend...
Read moreI stayed at the Geranio with my two young sons for a (very warm) couple of days. We had a really lovely time.||The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from Locarno station, and is about a 10 minute walk from the Piazza Grande in the town centre. There is 2 hour parking outside the hotel, and longer 4 hour parking spaces a few minutes up the road. However spaces could be hard to find at busy points. ||The hotel has a deal with the nearby multi storey car park opposite the station - you pay 14F for 24 hours. ||The reception staff were so helpful, full of ideas of where to go on days out. Guests also get free local transport under a local Canton scheme to cut congestion - so we caught a bus to Ascona to enjoy a walk through its historic centre.||The room was fine. Without air conditioning it could get very warm in the evening, however it was pleasant to sit outside on the balcony. The children slept on a sofa bed.||Breakfast was a good choice of cereals, bread and ham/cheese. There is also coffee available at any time, which was a nice touch. ||I would definitely recommend Hotel Getanio, we...
