I've stayed at Hotel Carmen numerous times over the years. Their warm and lovely staff, and homemade jams at breakfast, made this place feel like a home away from home! The rooms are comfortable, the service thorough and professional, and the wifi is great. They have heating for the cold months, but no cooling for the summer; they'll give you a fan if you ask nicely :) That works very well since Geneva doesn't get very hot. They didn't have a water conservation program till the last time I stayed here (where you hang up your towels if you don't want them washed) but I would just tell the housekeeping staff how often I wanted the towels changed and they honoured my request. Their staff speak English, French, Spanish, Russian, and many other languages!||||The hotel is in Plainpalais, which is a great location. There are lots of great restaurants and bars nearby. I like Wooden Hut (Thai), Rajpoute (Indian) and Spaghetti d'Oro (Italian). Les recyclables is a great bookstore-cafe nearby with free wifi. I love getting gelato at Manu or Gelatomania and going over to the skatepark at Plainpalais to watch the skaters. The river Arve nearby offers a lovely walking path for those who love the sound of rushing water. There are also great parks nearby to picnic or just lounge and read a book.||||It's really easy to get to the neighbourhood of Carouge from here, and also the city centre, and the old part of the city. There are three tram lines and a few buses that stop nearby. ||||This hotel offers excellent value...

Had a balcony and extremely comfortable bed. Owner/receptionist was very helpful and patient with all of my questions. She speaks perfect English. Follow up contact after the reservation was made were prompt.. Breakfast is included. Nice little variety of breads, yogurt, cheese, ham, cereal, juice, coffee & tea. Other extra perks that come with the room are free public transportion tickets, free WiFi and a parking discount if you drive and have a car parked at the nearby Plaine Palais Parking garge. Over night cost 15CHF. Located next to the University so plenty of cheap eats nearby. Several nicer restaurants to choose from also. We ate at Le Potugais. A supermarket at COOP CITY Is less than a five minute walk. Post Office is right around the corner. If you like Flea Markets there is a huge one on Saturdays and Wednesday across the street at the park. Hotel and area met all of my needs and I would stay here...
Read moreA four-star rating does not mean this is a four-star hotel. This is a traditional European hotel with relatively small rooms, no air-conditioning, and shared toilets. (In one of the rooms I stayed in there was a shower in the corner of the room, in the other there was a shared shower in the hall. Both rooms had sinks in the room.) Geneva is a notoriously expensive city, and Hotel Carmen, with its simple appointments,is among the less expensive places. Very close to Uni Mail and a tram line and a short walk from Lake Geneva, the location was convenient but rather loud, as there is a restaurant with outdoor seating on the ground floor. If you'd rather spend your time and money out and about in Geneva and not clicking through French-language TV channels in a fancy room, then this might be just the ticket for you. Bare bones but quite clean and suitable for the right kind...
