We choose Belga for its great reviews and 32 floor rooftop setting. Making our booking online using their booking system.
We close their signature dish of steamed muscles . We order the 1 kg to share and made our selection clear both spoken and by pointing to menu. We were offered still or sparkling water and choose still. A very nice plate of breads arrived which was complementary. The muscles were served, they were tiny! And the quantity looked less than the ordered 1 kg. The restaurant acknowledged that we were served a 1/2 Kg and immediately made another half kg. The muscles were so tiny with actually size around 12mm long! They were tasty and similar in taste to our much larger muscles we have in New Zealand. We were seated inside with a fab Belgian theme decor but no view of the outside, we could very well have been in the basement rather than being on the 32nd floor. The bill included 2 servings of 1/2 kg muscles, not the 1 kg as ordered. We explained this to the waitress but don’t think she understood. Belga complimented one of the muscles servings instead of just charging the 1kg price. Thank you Belga even though that is not what we requested. Finally the bottle of still water was charged at Baht 270 (plus the 10% service charge added to the bill). We thought this was on the expensive side for a bottle of water.
While the muscles and breads were tasty the rest of the experience was...
Read moreThe Belga restaurant located at the end of Plainpalais in Geneva offers authentic belgium fries, belgium beer and belgium "snacks" which can be overally described as fried sausages and fried skewer meats. A meal can either be fries + snack or miltrailette which is a typical belgium sandwhich made of bread and containing fries in sauce and a snack. The concept of the restaurant lies on the idea of presenting and serving food like a food truck while physically resembling to a bar with both an inside and outside part (terrace). The fries comes with a sauce of your choice and taste excellent. Same applies for the snacks. The service is really welcoming, warm and genuinely nice (waiters and waitress usually end up discussing with customers which is super nice). The price is kept low while maintaining good food quality and quantity. The restaurant is open during the whole day and the service is always quick and efficient at any time of the day (even in the middle of an afternoon). Also offering the possibility to take out food and eat elsewhere. On the whole, this is a go-to-place for going with friends or alone at any time of the day should it be for the lunch, dinner or in the middle of an afternoon. Especially a good option if time is short. A highly...
Read moreThe fries are not bad but it’s just not Belgian fries level of good. These are usually thicker but crunchier and soft on the inside. What I got is very good steak fries but that’s that. The bitterballen were good. The cheese croquette not so much.
Interesting choice of dips. You will find the usual suspects.
The selection of fried foods is somewhat limited but all the essentials are covered: from Frikandel to bitterballen which you can have as a mitraillette.
The Belgian beer selection is fine too.
However, the service is so courteous and lovely that I feel bad giving anything lower than 5 stars.
All things said, I won’t be back but it’s not a bad place to have a fried...
