Nice hotel room when we went in. Clean, not so big, but ok. Great distance to MRT and underground mall. Can walk easily underground to other MRT stations.
A shower and a tub in separate rooms, which seems nice, but the tub is too small for an average sized adult. Even our daughter at 8 years old said it was too small.
The review is 2 stars and not 1 star because the housekeeper was nice and considerate and gave us what we needed when requested.
The stars are low because starting on the first night we were there, the hot water wasn't coming after 10 minutes, we called the front desk and they told us to wait longer. I thought this was unusual, but sometimes in Taiwan, things are not as expected at some small hotels. So the water did heat up, but I was the 3rd person to take a shower and midway through, the hot water was gone. I waited an extra 15 minutes in shower for it to heat and gave up and just rinsed my hair and body cold. Not good.
Second night we got back in the room and started a shower, after 15 minutes still not hot water. After 30 minutes with all of the hot water on 2 sinks and the shower running, no hot water. Taiwan is a place to conserve fresh water, so this wasn't a good thing to begin with. The water heater itself is gas powered and outside the window. Being familiar with water heaters, I opened the window and could hear only water flow in the heater, no burner going and the heater was cool to the touch and no exhaust was coming from the top. It simply was not heating the water. We called the front desk after about an hour of running the water. It was well past our bed times. They told us to turn off all the power in the room by removing the key from the light slot. We did so and this did not reset the heater. Looking closer at the heater, I saw a battery meter in the corner, it was red. We called the front desk back and told them this. They sent someone up to check the thing, finally, and he determined the same thing I had, that the battery was dead. After about an hour, he came back with a D size battery. It was about 1am or so and our 8 year old hadn't even had her shower. The battery was replaced and the water started heating. However, the guy that changed the battery just left the old battery sitting on the table by the window, not bothering to take it.
It's unacceptable that the water heater battery is not checked regularly enough for this not to happen. It almost sounds like that water heater is not hooked to the power, and the battery is the only thing that ignites the natural gas with a spark. Otherwise, electricity should light it and the battery would only be needed if the power is out.
We got to bed at about 2:30am because of this. The hotel didn't offer much of an apology and said they couldn't compensate us because we already paid. Which really doesn't make any sense.
There's lots of places to stay in Taipei that probably pay attention to more details, stay...
Read moreThis hotel was an amazing place to stay. The value you get for the price is incredible. It is so convenient to the metro line to take you to different parts of the city. It is also walking distance to NingXia night market, and other things close by.
The staff refreshed our waters every day and the room A/C always kept it comfortable which was important as we visited in the middle of summer.
They also provide a free wifi Hotspot you can carry around so you don't have to deal with worrying about your international data roaming usage.
There is no pool or restaurant but we were not interested in those things as we were always out exploring the city.
My only complaint which I hope they address is that upon arriving at 830pm, the front door to the building is locked and there is a phone, but there is no sign or note that says how to call up to the front desk to have them open it for you. We were standing there confused for about 10 minutes with our luggage until someone happened to exit the building so we went in.
Upon checkin they said we were supposed to dial 9 on the phone as if that were somehow obvious. Overall still a 5 star rating, I'm just putting the suggestion here to help make it...
Read moreThe place was really nice for the price, the bathrooms had heated floors and heated toilet seat, the air conditioning was strong and crisp which is very much needed if you’re visiting in the summer/early fall months. The location is incredibly convenient, it is literally a minute walk from the red line MRT station, and it is close to the night market as well. The MRT makes it super easy to visit a lot of Taipei and it made the trip super fun. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, they are super quick to respond to email and requests. As for the other reviews saying that the location is loud, I can see that being the case if you were used to sleeping in dead silence. The location is much quieter than where I normally live so it was very comfortable and the bed was very comfortable too. The place smells really nice and clean, and housekeeping do a really good job and they are...
